What type of lenses should i buy. Basically i want to buy a range of 3 or 4 lenses but i have no ideas specfically which ones. What would you suggest for movie projects, music videos, commmercials, etc.

Also what brand? I will have little money left over, but i dont want to buy cheap quality. What brand would you recommend i go with. Canon's own lenses, Zeiss, Nikons, Lomo's etc.

I hear Nikon would be my best bet for low price but good quality. Can anyone confirm.

Although i did see some lomo lens footage on vimeo and fell in love with those images.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh you're nice guys, taking advantage of someones lack of knowledge on a subject, thank you very much. I did realise a pre-requisite of being on a forum was that we should know the answers.

I hope you feel good about yourself.

Calm down, it was just a joke :)

I'd go with a nice nikon set, they're good lenses and decently cheap. A 15 dollar nikon to canon EOS convertor will allow you to use them on a 5D.

I'd buy a 20mm 2.8 (or a 28mm 2.8 if you want to save some money)
Buy a 50mm 1.4 or 1.8
And something telephoto, if you think you need it. Between 85-105. I know they make 1.8 85mm nikons, but idk how cheap. I got my 105mm 2.5 nikon fairly cheap.

For you, I'd recommend either the Canon 24-105 f4 or 24-70 f2.8. Great quality, variable focal lengths, sharp at all stops, and they're Canon lenses so they are designed for your camera.

If that's out of your price range, than get a nifty fifty 50 f1.8 and be happy :)

Maybe Nikon primes (Nikkor MF; Ai or Ais) from eBay?
I hear good things about Canon EF 50mm F1.8 II and Tamron A09.

You can always rent Canon L lenses for like $30 each for a weekend.

If he can't afford the 24-105 or 24-70, there's no need to drop all the way to fantastic plastic. Why not the 50mm f/1.4 (and give the OP a fighting chance to focus manually?)

Save a couple hundred on the 24-105 if you purchase it with the 5d2: you won't regret it.
