I'm back in town! GH13 footage of Prince last night in NYC!

Hey guys....

I have been in a WHIRLWIND of craziness from my SUNDANCE 11 trip to just getting back and then getting Prince tickets at Madison Square Garden at the last minute (AWESOME seats front right of stage 2nd level) and the GH13 proves itself yet again as VIDEO CAMERAS were not allowed yet FILM CAMERAS were.. bwaahahahahahahaha....

They were not allowing any video cameras in and searching people's bags. I walked right through with the GH13 around my neck! I was also in full Blackout regalia and they just don't search or f^#% with people wearing top hats ;) the security searched the three people in front of me and I was prepared for some confrontation but instead just got a "hey dude nice hat enjoy the show!" ... and again I didn't bring a video camera, I brought a film camera... :cheesy: which was allowed. No need to mention that it shoots video right? But wait... I didn't shoot in 'video' mode 60p I shot in 'film' mode 24p. Things that make you go... "Hmmmmmm."

Technology is getting pretty crazy. When everyone's phone starts shooting 4k 3D these artists are just going to have to deal with the fact that their fans are going to record them sometimes and it helps the artist not hurts them. I have always given most of my stuff away for free and when I make a real movie I know the real fans will buy the blu-ray or dvd or go see it and whoever can't afford that and wants to copy it I'm ok with that because maybe someone new finds me and likes my stuff and next time they can buy a ticket or disc or whatever. Copy protection is lame and old school... now if someone else is SELLING your s**t.. then sure.. go after them, but that's it... don't go after the kid who just can't afford it yet or a fan just trying to share his awesome experience.

This footage looks better than some of his professionally released concert footage I dare say.. and I was hand holding it while dancing my ass off! As I see it, Prince OWED me some $$$. I bought Emancipation AND went to the horrid concert.... blech.. Chaos N Disorder.. blech.. Musicology... better but blah... LotusFlow3r... triple BLECH! I can name some more but the one who likes purple hats and symbols as much as I do made up for it with this concert! This was the 2nd best concert I have ever been to with the 1st being the 'Sign O the Times' concert that I saw when I was a wee little kid. This clip is the OPENER - 1999! 3rd song was Purple Rain.. I was like holy crap! He hasn't played these full songs in years he just did lame 5 minute montage mix ups of his old stuff and played a ton of mediocre at best stuff but NOT this time. I'm so glad he seemed to get over himself and get back into his music and even his new stuff from the 2010 album was pretty damn good!

Not posting this on youtube or vimeo as it will most likely be yanked by Prince's anti internet Jehovah Witness army team - so it's only a private short clip on my facebook account.. I don't know if you have to friend me or not, I don't think so...just log in...

Enjoy.. I have SO much more to talk about with Sundance and all which was just as an amazing experience and I pitched some stuff and got the interest of three financial backers so I'm pretty buzzing right now. Got some catching up to do here.

very good - next time turn off the autofocus and manual work it. also what lense did you use? i'm thinking of sellign my gh1 and get the gh2 just because you'd get the etc crop factor and probably could have seen prince's nostril hair lol
 
Hard to manual work it when you are dancing and holding a martini! I wasn't really there to shoot a video I was there to have fun... yet I did get some amazing stuff. Believe it or not this was the kit lens wowing me yet again. Remember also that facebook down rezzes it to 1280 x 720... like vimeo does (unless you pay and use the secret hidden menu.. which I do) there is WAY more detail in the original 1920 x 1080p.. and no compression artifacting.

I was very impressed with the camera mic and that it was very clear and not blown out distorted because it was LOUD in there! My ears are STILL ringing a little. Sometimes automatic gain compression IS useful!

i meant that with the gh2 you can use the etc mode and turn your zoom into 3x closeness without losing detail lol

and i can't believe the troll on the copyright use....it's called fair use and it is allowable under the educational/instructional purposes guidelines.
 
I think he might have been poking fun.... but you never can tell on here. I purposely am not putting up any full songs... just little snippets. Wouldn't the crop factor make the shaking / jello worse from me hand holding and dancing? I was really impressed that there is really no jello going on here!

It's a show. The guy paid his ticket. The guy took his camera and made some personal vids for no profit that falls within the guidelines of fair use laws/education/instructive.

So if you are not a troll you are simply ignorant falsely accusing the OP of doing something wrong. Educate yourself and maybe we'll be nicer to you and let you chat at the grown ups table.

Fair use is correct sir. If I wanted to get even MORE technical - the ticket says film cameras are allowed, so I was just taking a very fast film camera and taking 24 'stills' per second. Oh...by the way, if you are are going to be mr police force you better arrest the 8000+ people who were recording with their iphones.

I've seen some great stuff on youtube with the etc crop on the GH2 - the guy was using a tripod for birds/concerts and it looked great with no jello lol. Have you ever looked at the panny 45-200mm - - awesome bang for the buck.

Now they ABSOLUTELY would not have let a tripod in. That would just be ASKING for trouble! I don't have a GH2 yet I am still on the fence as to whether to even bother with it if I am planning on getting a AF-100 anyway.

As someone with 30+ years of Copyright experience, I can say that you are mistaken in your assumption that this falls under fair use.
By video recording the concert with sound and posting it, you were in violation of the Copyright law forbidding you to make an audio recording of said event in said venue.
I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you kids. Hey the video came out great, but it was wrong for you to do it. Bottom line.
