I'm back, back again...

Hello Fellow DVX'ers,

Its been a long break, (more than two years?).

I've been outside of this world, but I'm back. I read the news of Matt's death, very sad and shocking indeed.

So bit of a big question, but what's been happening around these here part of internet?

Welcome back! Basically, we've all been sitting around for two years twiddling our thumbs and asking "where did Anhar go?"

Hello, Anhar! Welcome back! :)

I like that the thread title is taken from a classic Comeau post and I wonder how many will catch that?

welcome back! how are your 3d skills doing! they were pretty good the last time I read one of your posts!

Hey Sad Max,

good to see the old faces again!

Yea sadly I've not been active in the 3d world, my direction in life shifted towards IT (a shameless plug will follow).

But I have promised myself to create my 3d masterpiece ( I don't care if it takes 10+ years to create, every polygon will be lovingly crafted). You Guys will be the first to see it.

I've got approximately 40 years (unless I die before then), my aims are:

* Create 3d Master Piece.
* Create Programming Language (Called Functional Chain or Fx). yes the world doesn't need yet another language...
* Design & Create computer from ground up (traditional architecture).
* Create alternative cpu design (based on neural network based).
* Write my book, my life long ambition called "The roots of reality".

In the meantime I'm back looking catching up on the Camera tech, I feel completely out of touch...

Shame-less Plug Warning:

I'm passionate about IT.

I'm looking for a place where we can learn, teach and grow.

That's why I'm trying to build such a community.

I would really love your help!

so let me introduce you to:

The IT Ninja

I know its in its infancy right now, but with your help it might grow...

End of Shame-less Plug

CAn you say some more about Functional Chain? What's its purpose/application?

And what are you hoping for from NN CPU design?

Howdy Terry!

This place is like a soap opera but in a good way. You don't tune in much for a long while, come back and see that Bo and Hope are still at it...

rlm7189! Very cool. Place is starting to feel comfortable again.

hi ullanta,

excellent question:

While attempting to create (yet another) LISP interpretor, it dawned on me that for there seemed to be a bit of inconsistency.

The idea behind Fx, is simple:

everything is a function call like thus:

in the above the name of the function is on the outside, the "data" is on the inside, of course you can nest functions inside functions:

f1( f2( x ) )

however, the most important thing is, you can also CHAIN functions like this:

f1(x).f2(x')

What happens, is that the data is transformed and passed into the next function. Thus Every program can be expressed in this manner, in essence you have Data in, Data transformation, and data out.

Also this allows for meta programming, because the data could also be code, i.e. a functional chain

What's its purpose/application?

Just purely academic! who knows what it may be useful for, I'm just a dreamer perhaps one day some else may make sense of it!

And what are you hoping for from NN CPU design?

Well its more of an extension of my master thesis, in normal binary adders circuits, there are issues like propagation delays, circuit complexity etc.

ANN are amazing in the sense, that it doesn't require computation in a sense. Imagine a computation unit that learns algorithms as they are executed, automatically optimising anything that runs!

Forget about bad branch predication and all that stuff, imagine a self organising CPU!

Hmmm... I'm still not sure I see the clear difference/benefit of this vs., say, LiSP... how does chaining differ from referring to data structures, or passing them? Or copies of them? You use x' - does this imply x continues to exist? Is x' determined automatically as in your usage... if so, it seems like having to name it specifically could get complicated... would a longer chan have to look like: f(x), g(x'), h(x''), i(x''') ? if you add a function in the middle, do you have to adjust all your "prime"s? Isn't i(h(g(f(x)))) clearer? What'm I missing?
