about to purchase this dvx. It has the scratches only on the plastic around the lens. It has 635 hours on the heads. It also comes with the charger, a battery, 3 filters, and a case. What would this camera go for? I want to see if getting I'm ripped off or not.

I don't know what a fair price would be but I certainly would check it out thoroughly before buying due to the dirty condition.

I would personally be cautious of such a camera unless I knew the person selling it.

635 hours is not ridiculous, but it sure isn't low.

The scratches on the front concern me because typically, any dipsh*t will at least run a cheap UV filter on the front to protect it.

That alone would lead me to believe that it has seen a pretty rough life. That combined with those hours would make me look for a different cam unless it was a total steal.

I'm kind picky about my gear though :)

I know what you mean. He says he's never dropped it. He's only used sony tapes and had it serviced onced. He is the oringinal owner, he's had it for about 2 and a half years. Nothing technical wrong with it. The fronts the only thing I'm worried about. I'm paying $900. Would that be a steal?

I wouldn't say that $900 is a steal by ant stretch of the imagination.

If you know this person well, they should be able to describe why the scratches are there and what specifically was serviced.

It may be fine or it may be a POS waiting to fall apart.

Just be cautious and get detailed answers to all of your questions first.

I'm just not too keen on gear that "looks" bad.

If it looks bad, it's possible that it has not been treated well in any way.

Seems like you can find 100Bs for about the same price, maybe a hundred or so more, with fewer hours and in better condition. I would say that $900 would be a steal for a 100A in better shape with lower hours, but for the camera you've shown, seems like it would be a risk for any price.

There is no hurry. There are plenty of these cameras out there.

That camera looks like an old workhorse. It's been "ridden hard and put away wet".

You can pick up a 100a in top shape for $1200-$1300, and a 100B for $1500-$1600. Save your pennies for one in good condition. One trip to Panasonic for repairs and you will have spent a lot more than you are saving.

I was going to pay $850 for it. I guess i won't buy it and buy a vx2000 in pretty good shape (atleaste better than this) then later on in life I could buy a dvx. It's just I need a camera now since my vx1000 got stolen and $850 all i got. Do you think i making a good choice? please give me some advice homies. thanks! and god bless

If the DVX has no scratch on the lens and everything is OK I should go for it before vx2000

Just one thing.
Remember that the DVX100A has a little more grainy pictures than the DVX100 and the DVX100B...

I have the 100A though.. and I'm very pleased with it

About questions..

Scratches on lensglass..?
All the functions are working..?
Is the battery working as it should..?

I got my 100B used but in perfect condition for $1000 at a camera store here in LA. It was a rental camera, but the guy was nice and sold it to me. I would not recommend buying on ebay because you have not seen the camera before. I see you are in TN, so I dont know if theres a big camera store there.

Well the guy I might be buying it from lives in Nashville. I was going to meet him with the camera and look at it and try it out before buying. I might even ask to to get it for $750. The guy sounds legit. He's used it for music vids and commercials.
