I'm a Vegas idiot....

Hi all. I have Vegas4. I have tried to capture footage from my dvx100 but when I click the capture video icon an error message appears. When I click on the detail portion it states that some files cannot be opened.

2 questions

1.My ram crashed 2 weeks ago. >:( It was replaced. Vegas was installed when the original ram crashed. Could this be the cause of the error message. Should I un/reinstall Vegas.

(in case you can't tell, I'm a computer neophite. When I made films, it was on a KEM)

2. Does anyone know if they have made a Vegas for dummies book? I have the Vegas workshop book but I think I need something even more dumbed down. :-/

I'm certain I will have more questions. I appreciate all the help and patience.

Your ram crashed? That different ;). Anyway it should be uninstall/reinstalled and then see if it works OK. Books -- Out of my line... Never learnt how to read ;D

Re: I'm a Vegas idiot....

does it ask you to find or replace files not found?

Re: I'm a Vegas idiot....

No, it says can't open files. I am writing this from work but I don't have the specific files.

Ram had a "cavity" (as the tech guy described) so as I turned on and off my machine the ram became more unstable.

Re: I'm a Vegas idiot....

The first thing I'd do is reinstall Vegas. If it's not working now, you've really got nothing to lose. :)

As for a beginner's intro to Vegas, perhaps Gary Kleiner's DVDs would be useful. The DVDs were recently discussed in this forum. Here's a link to the thread (link)

Re: I'm a Vegas idiot....

Sony just e-mailed me and stated that the problems I'm having were indicative of the first version of 4.0. They gave me a link to download the newer version.

Wow, a company that actually responded to my question and addressed it specifically. Kudos SONY!!!

Re: I'm a Vegas idiot....

As to Books for vegas, there isn't any question of mine that hasn't been answered by searching through the manual. I love that thing. I taught me everything. Sometimes it's all about finding the right word to describe the problem.
