BMD2 will be available in 6 months
You're just guessing right? Predictions like this can really hurt sales. Maybe BMC will just keep giving out free firmware updates for the next couple of years before they produce another camera. We don't know. I've been waiting for the AF 200 for three years. LOL
When evaluating the Ikonoskop DII, I love the camera for what it actually is. It's the modern version of a 16mm film camera. You would have to really study the footage from the DII alongside actual 16mm film stock in a vacuum, to really see the difference. Everything I have seen from the footage out there, is that, Ikonoskop got really really close to that look. Films like "The Wrestler, Following, Pi" and the many other 16mm classic films out there, have proven that the 16mm look is viable. 16mm can look good, if you know what you're doing, and have a plan. For the former (and current) 16mm camera owners, I think this camera is perfect, especially if you already own 16mm glass.
Unfortunately, I don't own 16mm glass.
Unfortunately 9700 Euros ($12,000+ US) is still too close to the price of the Scarlet package, for me to consider this camera, but I am glad that they have presented a discount package. I would estimate that before this announcement, the "Ikonoskop Start Package" would have been more like 13,000 Euros.
Is there a chance, that this camera package will be priced below 8000 Euros ($10,000 US) ???
I don't know, but BMCC is going to be flooding the market for sure by August 2012, so I hope that Ikonoskop doesn't get washed away.
The DII has some advantages over BMCC:
Swappable Battery
CCD Sensor (Jello-Free) BMCC CMOS ?
Storage Media that works on both Mac and PC
16mm mount that is made for it's 16mm sensor (BMCC has an akward Sensor/Lens Mount relationship)
But even these nice benefits are not enough to justify a camera that is triple the price.
If you compare apples to apples, the BMCC Body is $3000 US, but you still need Hard drives, battery system, Media Reader, so it's alot closer to $4,000.
What is the right price for the Ikonoskop DII ?
