The documentary I've been working on for the past two years as an assistant editor is being shown in LA for the remainder of this week. I posted earlier about a Nightline episode covering our story. You can read about it and watch the episode on the player to the right of this page:

**Warning, the Nightline segment does spoil parts of the movie if you plan on attending.
The movie's home page is www.dariusgoeswest.com
A youtube trailer can be seen here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DFt3_s1WnS4
We're showing the movie in order to be Oscar eligible, and the bigger the crowds the better. If you're in the area, please check it out.
We shot the film on two DVX100a's and edited on an iMac, my PowerMac, and another PowerMac running Final Cut Pro. Some of the lower thirds were created in Motion. The version showing in LA is an uprezzed, 1080p 24 fps version of the doc. Most of the uprezzing was done in After Effects 6.5 with a Magic Bullet plug-in eliminating artifacting. Some was uprezzed through hardware.
At this past Friday's showing, Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy, who are in the documentary, were in attendance.
We sent the following message to everyone on our email list with info about the movie:

Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you about "Darius Goes West." At the urging of several Academy Award voters, we have decided to make a "run for the Oscars." One of the first steps to becoming eligible for a nomination is having our film play in New York or Los Angeles for seven consecutive days, twice a day, before August 31. We have chosen Los Angeles for our premiere theater run. IF YOU KNOW ANYONE IN THE L.A. AREA, PLEASE FORWARD THEM THIS E-MAIL AND URGE THEM TO BUY A TICKET TO THE SHOW. To create a buzz, we need to pack the house!!
Details...
"Darius Goes West," will open on Friday, August 24th at Laemmle's Music Hall Theater (9036 Wilshire Boulevard at Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills, 90211). The film will run through Thursday, August 30th, and showtimes are 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Director Logan Smalley will be speaking after the Friday and Saturday evening screenings, where audiences will also have a chance to meet him. We highly recommend buying tickets online. This can be done beginning one week prior to opening night by visiting www.laemmle.com.
Please urge your friends in Los Angeles to come see this film -- if not on opening night, then sometime before it closes its limited Los Angeles engagement on August 30th.
Thanks for your continuing support of a project--and a cause--we are all so passionate about.
KNOW ABOUT IT!
The Darius Goes West crew
