F35: If you own a F35 please speak up! :)

F35 PL Mount, IF box, Pix E5 (on the way) and 2 Angenieux DP zooms.

Bought mine recently from Shannon, who was (and still) very helpful.

Learned so much from all of you through your posts. Still more to learn and test.

I got very lucky. With one of the lenses, the rear element clears the sensor filter by less than one mm.
Will be running some tests as soon as I could get someone to help me. The camera with the lens and a hefty battery (discovered that an 80Wh battery gets eaten up very fast by the camera so using my only 190Wb) is very, very heavy. A crew is a must. I sort of knew what I was getting into, but still a bit of a shock as to how difficult it was to move the camera around.

My 220wh battery lasts just under 2hrs with my F23/SRW1. I believe the F35 sucks up more power than the 23 correct?

What kind of setup are you coming from?

You'll get used to it brother. 190Wh battery is too heavy for any camera. Grab 2 90's and swap them when they are done. They fit in your cargo pants pockets. Enjoy her!

Naw... I shoot with 230's and 190's all the time on my VariCam, F55 and C300. And they're way lighter than the HyTron 140's that I used to run around with on my VariCam back in the day. Not exactly rigged-out Alexa territory, but I recall weighing it with a few wireless, MB and HyTron on it one day and it was over 33lbs.

+1

Sometimes the balance a heavier battery gives to a setup, will offset the feeling of extra weight. I’d rather run a couple extra pounds and have a balanced shoulder rig, than a front heavy one.

Hmm, Yeah, it requires some customization to get it all tidy and easy to swing around. The if box situation really adds length and bulk.

The IF Box alone is light as a feather. Its when you put a battery on it that it gets heavy. My F23 with the IF and Battery is no heavier than my old varicam. The SRW1 is what weighs it down in my situation but im not complaining as I really enjoy the workflow. Helps me maintain my upper body strength

Pretty sure we’re on the same page. Although, the feel of weight on the varicam is reduced because of its unibody design.

I took a chance on a tape deck, and it didn’t work. I’d imagine with a battery belt, the tape deck would kind of be nice. Heavy, but would be a good balance for cinema lenses? I am just guessing, so that is a question and not a suggestion.

Yes, the SRW1 really balances out the camera. It takes the camera from being very front heavy to a much more comfortable balance, especially when shouldering. For me it was actually much easier to shoulder even with the considerable added weight.

Fully rigged up with a compact zoom, evf and odyssey 7Q I think my F35 came in around 13-14kg. That's not too nasty - particularly compared to the Alexa (which is about 18-19kg a minimum, rigged up with the same accessories).

And no one should need to add weight to the camera for balance, just use an Arri-dovetail based shoulder mount. Let's you put the centre of gravity where you need it (directly over your shoulder). Any other approach to handheld is silly by comparison.

I don’t gig with the f35, so i can configure it with a prime lens set that doesn’t effect the balance when i change a lens.

So, no need for the added arri dovetail slider setup. I know that is great for some things, but not always worth while.

This allows me to work with less parts and lighter weight, and a lower center of gravity.

Added you to list. Welcome! :)

What Shannon you bought from? odshannon? Should I take his name off the list then?

Thread has gone a lot off topic guys. Supposed to be just a register for F35 owners. We have whole forum to discuss other stuff. ;)
