if you buy a hmc40...

The real point here is, there are at times, great deals to be had by dealing with Crooklyn and other non-authorized retailers. If you can make it work, and you know what the risks are; go for it. Just be aware that if it is a grey market (offshore) cam, that the warranty isn't any good. If you have a problem in the return window, that probably isn't going to happen. And of course, the bait and switch, or the valueless up-sell or we're out of stock shtick is going to happen. If you can get past that and save a few hundred, more power to ya.

I purchased an HMC40 on 11/29 from 42nd Street Photo for $1499.99.  It arrived on 12/5 well packed (box inside of box inside of box)  Reseller Ratings rates them 9+.  Some people did comment that they will call you to "confirm" the order at which point they try to sell you accessories.  On their order form at the bottom there is a place for "Comments".  I instructed them to not call me for the purpose of selling me accessories.  They did not call.  The HMC40 works perfectly and upon registering with the Panasonic website I have the full 3 year USA warranty.
