I am using the Gh3 for a lot of wedding video this year.
I am brand new to DSLR shooting, so I have a few questions:
1) What function priority do you have the camera set to: S, A, P, or other? Why?
2) What is another good B- roll camera for ceremonies? Another GH?
3) What accessories do you use for outdoor ceremonies? (matte-box, viewfinders, etc?)
4) What len(s) do you use for ceremonies?
5) What len(s) do you use for receptions?
6) What do you use for audio for both ceremonies and receptions?
7) What are some major surprises/challenges to using the GH3 that you don't have with traditional video cams?

1) What function priority do you have the camera set to: S, A, P, or other? Why?
Always manual (M). Control.
2) What is another good B- roll camera for ceremonies? Another GH?
GH2 if you don't have enough for another GH3.
3) What accessories do you use for outdoor ceremonies? (matte-box, viewfinders, etc?)
Viewfinder, Rode PinMic or Lav mic, Roland R-05 or Sennheiser G3, Manfrotto BHDV 561 or sticks. Mattebox if it's really sunny and the light angle is problematic.
4) What len(s) do you use for ceremonies?
Depends on the angle of the shot. 70-200 or 135 generally.
5) What len(s) do you use for receptions?
15 fisheye, 35L, 50L, 85L, 70-200L IS
6) What do you use for audio for both ceremonies and receptions?
Plug H4n recorder into the board. Use Rode Videomic Pro for scratch audio. Rode PinMic to mic the groom with a Zoom H1 or Roland R-05.
7) What are some major surprises/challenges to using the GH3 that you don't have with traditional video cams?
No zooming smoothness unless you get the PZ power zooms. No proper pro-audio connections. Use a JuicedLink for XLR audio inputs.

1. Manual, because any other setting has a tendency to change things when I don't want them to change.
2. GH2 or 3.
3. None yet. Though I'd love to pick up a Varavon Loupe EX-Supporter for my GH2. And some ND filters.
4. I recommend the 35-100 2.8. Anything slower will cause you to go too high in the ISO.
5. I recommend the 12-35 2.8. It's fast, has a good range for closer proximity reception work, and most importantly - it's stabilized!
6. The built-in mic. For higher packages, I also use Lav mics and send their feed to a Zoom H4N.
7. Forget about auto features...and buttery smooth zooms...and gradual iris changes...and the ability to get the job done with a single lens...and built-in ND filters at the flick of a switch. That's all gone with DSLR shooting. (But the trade off is an image that's unsurpassed until you hit $5000 or more, and even then the little GHx may still outperform.)

good answers here - seems a lot of us have come to similar conclusions - with the price of the GH2 there's no better choice for an A,B or C cam - I still have 6 GH1's and now 4 GH2's

now I'm jealous ;-) I only have one of each.
I've read that some people have challenges matching footage between the GH1 and GH2. Care to comment on your experience?
Also, I know that Shane Hurlbut said that the color varies between the numerous Canon 5DMkII's he has. Have that with your GHx's?

Audio Question

Audio Question

I have been using the GH2 Since they came out for weddings. I shoot with the Canon 60D also.
I find the audio on the GH2 amazing. I also use the Zoom H4 and H2 and H1 with my Canon.
Why would you use an H4 or H2 with the GH2 or GH3
I will be purchasing 2 GH3 very soon
Have the audio on the GH3 got worse from the GH2 ? I found that the GH2 was great to use ! I never had an audio issue with the GH2 I mean it NEVER
I don't go into DJ or Band boards I leave it 24 inches away from speaker to much trouble with DJ's and audio guys screw up my output channel to much.

Actually the audio on GH3 is actually a slight improvement over the GH2.

If anyone is using the GH2/GH3 for weddings, can you please let me know if you are using any "Auto" settings?
For Receptions, I'm beginning to think that auto focus/exposure may be better b/c of the diversity of lighting, movement, etc. during shots.
The ceremony is probably better to work under "manual" conditions."

Personally, I wouldn't put the camera on auto anything. Well, maybe autofocus with this camera for some projects since it does such a great job with autofocusing.
