In speaking with the IDX reps on their batteries after our testing of them last week in the desert, while the batteries' performance was exceptional, I was critical of the manner in which they conducted/are conducting the special offer between JVC and IDX. My position was and is echoed by a number of you who have PM'd me relative to the fact that it does the independent filmmaker little good to have the camera without the new batteries immediately to go along with it given the immediacy of the need. The JVC batteries, as anyone who's tried them knows, last about 40 minutes w/o heavy use of auto zoom, continuous tape head engagement and use of the flip-out monitor. With that use, usable power time drops appreciably to about 20 minutes; a perfect workflow match for the HVX/P2 card...change the card, change the battery!!!
The rep, Michelle, absolutely sympathizes with our plight but can only forward my message and e-mail to the folks at JVC. She also noted that if enough of us took the time to let JVC and IDX know our feelings and provided them with a solution, they'd take us seriously and provided her e-mail saying she'd forward on anything she received.
Below, you'll find a "complaint/recommendation" form. Cutting it, copying it into an e-mail (we-mail) of your own and sending it along to JVC and IDX might mean the next promo benefits us a lot more than this one did/does. It's such an easy fix; just have a stock of them ready with the cameras at the retailers. Please cut, copy and we-mail the paragraph below today. We're, together, a powerful voice in the film community but only by banding together once in a while will the corporate world get the message.
I recently purchased a JVC from my retailer and am happy with the camera. My problem is with the batteries that come with it. As you no doubt know, their really insufficient for the camera and I suppose that's why you've partnered with IDX to provide us with professional-level power to go with our professional level camera. The problem is that buying my camera today for about $6000 by the time tax is added does little but separate me from my money until I receive the IDX batteries. This could be weeks when I have to buy the camera, wait for a week to two weeks for my retailer to request a "Certificate" from JVC and receive it, another 3-4 days for them to mail it to me (1 day to mail, 3-days in the postal system), a day to fill it out and mail it back to JVC and then another week to two for JVC to get the authorization to IDX and IDX to get the batteries to my retailer. These are real-world times that my contemporaries are experiencing.
In today's automated world, why don't you just set up a web-based authorization system that automatically processes orders from me and other customers directly or, better yet, just get together with IDX so the retailers who participate in the program have a ready supply on-hand when I buy my camera so I don't have to make two trips.
This is a really great deal but, in my opinion, not completely thought through. We appreciate both your collective understanding that the cameras, as great as they are, sorely lack power and your provision of better batteries. But we buy cameras to make money and when I have to deplete my savings account and then wait to use the camera to make my living for 4-6 weeks for no reason defeats, at least partially, the purpose of your "fix".
Your future attention to providing a "complete solution" would be greatly appreciated.

This Board is a voice in the filmmaking community and while it's all well and good that we were fortunate in that while we awaited our certificates and batteries, we had "loaners" to test and report on, not all of us are that lucky. If we complain loudly enough AND give them a viable solution, they can't help but take notice. Then, if they don't respond, well, no one can say that the DVXUser Group isn't a class act and fair beyond all reason.
