Idiotic Question

Hi everyone.

I have been messing around with an external mic on my GH1. When I plug it in, and turn the camera on, the screen says "be sure to turn off the power to external mic". How do I do that if the mic runs on phantom power? Is there a menu on the camera? and if yes, where? I cannot find anything on it.

THanks!

Matt

I thought it said to turn "on" the mic just as a reminder if your mic is self-powered...so you won't record dead silence.

Can't check though, because I had to send my cam off for repairs yesterday.

I just checked mine and it does indeed say to make sure that power is turned on - as stated, to remind you to power it on if it runs on batteries.

According to this, the GH1 will work with mic's using phantom power.

On the subject, does using an external mic inout into the GH1 get around the lack of gain control? If not - is there a meter to check levels?

Sadly the answer is no to both. If you plan on spending money to buy an external mic, I would suggest go with a field recorder like zoom h4(n).
