Hi everyone. I'm starting my first indie doc. My project is about someone I met 20 years ago when I was an 18 years old camp counselor and he was a 7 year old camper at a YMCA camp in Western Massachusetts. I came across him (Nelson de Witt) last year on facebook and was surprised to learn of some of the amazing changes he had experienced. The clip below is a 6 min pitch video for a crowdsource funding site called Kickstarter. We shot it on a Panasonic HPX-500 with P2 cards. Nelson is one of the disappeared children of El Salvador, and the doc is about his story and a journey of self discovery.

A big part of our process is about sharing that journey. As I learned as much from purchasing a dvx and being on on dvxuser as I did from years of working in production, dvxuser was first place that came to mind as a community with whom I wanted to share it. The doc is kind of "meta" in a sense, in that some of the story is about Nelson learning to tell his story (more about that later). We're strongly considering shooting the interviews on a Canon 7D (for which I did much of my research here on this site). We'll be broadcasting many of the interviews live on Ustream for others to participate and will be working with a professional DP to make video tutorials about how we choose our equipment package, how to light an interview, etc.

Anyway, I could go on (and I will), but mostly I wanted to just post the link and share something I'm very excited about ... And even though its a funding video, I hope you won't feel solicited. I'd just love it if people are into the doc that they share, discuss, and participate too! Below is the link:

thanks,

The video was shot as a fund raising tool, intended to introduce the subject of the doc and lay out some of his story. I would love to hear comments, questions, criticisms. Hope you enjoy! Thanks.
