Ideal settings for live video

When using the composite out, the video is delayed. Is it possible to avoid a delay on the video? I would like to use my camera for a live feed to a video switcher. My good 'old DVX never had any sort of delay, but the HMC does. DVX was frequently used for 'eye-mag' in which the speaker at a convention/event is displayed on large projection screens.

If there is no way to have 'live' video out of the HMC, then it is safe to say this camera is ONLY built for recording, and can never be used in a live setting, which would be a genuine disappointment to me. I hope I am just overlooking a simple setting!!!

The only option I found in the menu is the option of using 'record' or 'live' on the audio signal. I tried both and if it did make a difference it was difficult for me to discern. I would guess that live is... uhm... the live audio... and that record would be exactly what is going onto the card, so... For the audio and video to line up properly I would want to use 'record' but it would delay the audio to compensate for the VIDEO delay, which is the problem in the first place.

Note, component and HDMI seem to yield the same results.

Any insights? Thoughts? The HMC is a PHENOMENAL camera, and I am thoroughly pleased with it as an investment... Am I simply screwed in the 'live video' department?

Thank you for your help!

I see your note... but HDMI? Not sure why you wouldn't be using this anyways, there is no delay... There are also HDMI/component to composite converters.

And yes the live setting in audio is for the headphone out - there is a slight delay when its on record...

I will use the live setting on audio, but that doesn't solve the video issue.

As for HDMI, every single event company uses video switchers that accept component and/or composite, not HDMI. HDMI would be awesome, but most of the Folsom video switchers are geared toward VGA. Until these production companies update their video switchers HDMI will be useless in a live setting.

Sure, you would need an adapter for HDMI to Composite... also pretty sure you can go HDMI to DVI to VGA...

I use component all the time, I have never noticed a delay. Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention. Does it state so in the specs?
