Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

Sand paper only works on Zeiss lenses.

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

Don't forget that you've got to wet the brillo pad a bit with some lighter fluid, that really helps grind out the imperfections left over from the manufacturing process.

But remember that sometimes in the process of cleaning the lens, the optics become misaligned and you'll hear a clicking sound inside the camera.  You can get rid of that by opening the hidden diagnostic panel by bending the viewscreen downwards when it's fully extended. There's a safety feature that prevents you from opening the pannel accidentally, so you've got to yank on it really hard to disingage the latch.

That's also where the "uprez" buttons are located that unlock the uncompressed feature.

Barnes wins the thread.

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

..bwahahaha! ..awsome  :P

i think they should also be told up front that bashing in the leica lense with a rock will give them better images.. that lense was put on to intentionally stop people from getting HD quality out of the lesser priced camera. if you smash it, your images will be HD. ..it also lets out a gas behind the lense that you can inhale, and get smarter from.

..barnes, HA! i just noticed your quote there. ::)

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

Good call IAL, it seems so obvious to those of us who have had the camera for a while. But I suppose there are those out there that just don't know these things!

:D

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

You can't bash in the lens on the PAL version though...it's made of tougher soviet glass and requires a nail set to really crack.

I hear if you put a piece of ham inside the canadian DVX and leave it there for a couple of weeks it will start to smell like Molsen Ice.

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

i actually just traded my DVX for an old egg. pretty good eal cause i can smell it all i want. .. the guy also gave me a couple mallets from a broken down "whack a mole". who can beat that!

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

Okay, I bent back my LCD to find the diagnostic panel. THere was a loud crack, but that's okay, right? There's a way to pop this thing back on somehow?

Once you figure out the answer to that question, you will be a Platnum Member.

:D :D :D :D

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

Okay, I popped mine off as well. Do you have to do something to activate the monitor to be wireless? I can't seem to get mine to work. Also, now that it's off, it won't stay back on. Do I have to by some sort of accessory to remount it to the camera? Also, I would think that the monitor would now need a battery, where does that go? Sorry to be so dumb, but I just got my camera yesterday and I am still trying to figure it out. Thanks for all the advice I've read here though. Having the monitor be wireless will really help with crane shots. Just tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

Do you see any wires?  Trust me, it's wireless.  If there are still wires that you can see, you should cut them off because it won't be truly wireless until you do that.

Next what you have to do is tape a C battery to the front of the monitor right where the screen is.  When you're ready to start shooting, mount your DVX on the crane and smash the lens in with a hammer.  If you haven't already placed a slice of canadian bacon in the tape transport...do that now.  Power up your DVX and pour water over it to make sure it's not waterproof.

You might see some sparks come out of the DVX at this point, but don't worry...that's just pixie dust from the Magic Bullet.

Now, to activate the wireless monitor, make sure the battery is still attached.  Now find a long bridge, preferably a suspension bridge and throw the monitor off.  Next you should eat a sandwich and lead a mule down to retrieve the monitor (which will now be activated).  Once you find the monitor, reassemble it and go to sleep.

In the morning you will have a 35mm print under your pillow and a distribution contract in your sock drawer.

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

This information is all very good but all I would like to know is how do you turn it on ;)

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

You guys! Barry put all this stuff in his guide! Don't give away all of his good tips. Buy Barry's guide ya moochers!

Re: Idea - Should have a newbie forum!

Keep in mind not everything is in the guide. I don't repeat what's adequately explained in the manual, but I do go into extensive detail on subjects that I felt were not adequately explained in the manual. So there's a wide variety of stuff, I do hope I got it all!
