Idea For a DVD Bonus Feature

My son is 9 and really digs music. I was playing some Ray Charles in the car yesterday, and he really enjoyed it. So when I got home I put on the scene in the Blues Brothers where Ray sings "Shake Your Tail Feather". He liked it so much that he kept clicking the chapter back to watch it again.

But, eventually he just let it play. I didn't think much of it, because I know the violence is comical and there is no sex. But there is some foul language. So my thought is to have an alternate audio track that just bleeps out the foul language, but does not affect the film in any other way. Has anyone seen anything like this on a DVD? I'm thinking there are a lot of movies that just have a smattering of foul language, but those are the only things that may be offensive.

I distinctly remember not being allowed in the theater to see The Blues Brothers when it came out. I was 16 and The Blues Brothers had an R rating. The ticket seller smiled with a sense of evil self satisfaction as if taking pleasure in my disappointment and frustration.

Sorry, Jim. That's all I got...

Just find out when its on TV or basic cable and tape it for him, as the language is censored out. It's on quite often, usually on AMC or TBS.

Thanks for nothing old man

But not in widescreen....:crybaby:

Actually I'm just using that as an example. It seems like there has to be a bunch of movies that might benefit from that feature.

That's pretty smart. In all honesty, it's not even that hard if I'm thinking about this right. Basically just setup a different story in DVDSP or whatever it is they use to manufacture them.

I wonder if they can't/don't because it would change the rating lower. I know that sounds like it wouldn't matter, but you very well couldn't sell a rated R movie to a 12 year old, even if he 'promised' to only watch the PG version. Wherein your case, it would make complete sense. Walmart usually sells edited stuff (music at least ... I'm not sure about movies. I don't buy movies from them usually).

I use, and have been very happy with, Clear Play http://www.clearplay.com/

You have to subscribe to get the latest filters, but it allows me to choose from 3 or 4 levels in about 6 different categories (language, nudity, etc) and it filters it out as it plays.

I like it because it's not altering the original DVD in any way and I can rent/borrow/buy DVDs at any time and know that except in rare occasions there will be a filter available for it.

It's worked very well for me.
