Sony Alpha Rumors are picking up more cross talk on FX-9 (probably that September, 13th presser, I reckon) and FX-6 about a year from now. They are sort of kind based on FS-7 and FS-5 respectively but FX-9 is supposed to be full frame.

but why use a render of a new camera as a main image if it’s just lights?

Grasping at straws here... But if that’s the case, it could be lights specifically tuned(or tuneable) to either Arri sensors or other sensors, as well. Like what Litemats demo’d last year.

Thats an interesting thought. Are you saying the thing part that looks like lens mount is actually for lighting modifiers? Could well be actually...

Full frame is nice for certain scenarios, but I feel like the Target audience for the FS7 doesn’t need it. S35 is already critical for focusing when you’re doing run and gun type of work, and trying to do that with a full frame sensor would result in a lot of out of focus television. I can see using an S35 mode for most things and going up to FF for things like sit down interviews, but if it’s going to come at a higher cost for 6-8k and a larger sensor, then you’re losing the magic that makes the FS7 special in the first place.

Walking around CineGear 2019, I got a sense that all logic and reason are gone in our industry. The industry has deemed that anything short of 6K is subpar and for the most part, anything that isn't FF is yesterday's news. Makes no sense, unless you have a healthy skepticism about industry marketing and realize
that our entire community has fallen right in line with a marketing strategy that's pushing features and "innovation" that VERY few actually need. We really are in the Emporers New Clothes phase with technology. It will eventually change and actually begin to evolve because they can't just keep pushing pointless resolution jumps forever.
But for now, bigger and bigger sensors with ever increasing resolution is what passes for "innovation".

If the FX9 rumour is true and it will have face and eye AF as the new A7 cameras as SonyAlphaRumours are claiming I’m gonna order one right away. If it also has IBIS its pretty much my dream camera.
And finally the PZ 28-135 f4 lens will have a camera to match it!

EDIT: I'm so excited about the possibility of the FX9, I booked a hotel! Looks like I'll be at IBC/Amsterdam 15th to 18th of Sep. Who else is going???

If this rumored FX9 has the Venice mojo and is priced right, Sony might have a winner and I might look at it. If it's more of a full frame FS7 or F55 , then I will pass. Don't miss my FS7 at all. Let's hope the Venice means a new era for Sony and that they have learned cinema cameras need beautiful images. Not just accurate images. If Sony wanted and knew how, they have the means to take anybody and anything out. The problem is they are Sony. So fingers crossed.

Lemme get my Nomex underwear on...

I've been wondering if the reason for the "consumer" type marketing and so many "falling" for it is because of the influx of the type of people working in the industry now(that have come in in the last decade from the DSLR revolution/inexpensive gear), as opposed to the previous generations.

There’s absolutely a correlation there. If you ever see these YouTube reviews where the guys make a comment like “this camera also has a gain feature, but why would you ever use that?” you know what’s going on. There are those who cut their teeth before the Canon 5D II, and everyone else.

In case you have not seen this already:

"We got three new “messages” about the possible FX9 and FX6 cameras:

Source 1:

The next generation of XDCAM cameras from Sony are the PXW-FX9 and PXW-FX6. These will feature the next generation of sensor chipset providing much improved AF with face detection and Eye-AF.

These will also be based on the current FS5/7 design and with some features from the Sony Venice cinema camera. First out is the higher end PXW-FX9 this fall and next year a lower end PXW-FX6.

Codecs include XAVC for both cameras with XQD on the PXW-FX9 and SDXC for the PXW-FX6. Both will do 10-bit internal recording and external RAW recording. Resolution for the PXW-FX9 is almost full 6K in full frame and for the PXW-FX6 S35 sized sensor at around 5.7K. PXW-FX9 will use XAVC-I and XAVC-L codecs and PXW-FX6 will use XAVC-L only.

24MP “VENICE” Style Sensor Full Frame Video Camera FX9 Coming!
oh, a7S III…

Sony FE Cinema camera $10K
Coming soon
Source 4 (already posted weeks ago):

Sony will be releasing a successor to the FS7 camera with a 6k full frame sensor and dual-base ISO this December, the current prototype’s name is the FX9. Announcement is coming in mid September."

It would almost be too good to be true if all these rumors pan out. A "mini-Venice" with AF for a sum of $10K? I'd be all over that. Hopefully the Sony engineers will have figured out a way for the tally to remain on the screen when you turn off the rest of the display. A more robust VF would be nice as well. Even putting the VF from the PMW400 on the Fx9, as Sony did with the "broadcast package" Fs7 option, would be an improvement.

If the FX9 only features external RAW recording and you have to buy one of those rip-off $3,000.00 Sony interfaces to do so, that's a strategic mistake by Sony in this market.
Of course, the camera will still sell but it won't be as successful as it could be if it had internal RAW recording. I have a feeling that, depending on the outcome of the Apple/Red legal kerfuffle,
hopefully we will see an end of an era of external RAW recording. I have seen a perceptible change in regards to shooting RAW and what clients will accept with the introduction of the C200
and Cinema RAW Light. Two producers I shoot for have seen the light and now actively request me to shoot their stuff on RAW so I think the realization is becoming, "Yes, RAW is big, bigger than regular formats but not unreasonable in general"

I know it's been that way for me, when I started shooting RAW with my camera, media was expensive, and the 1Gbps seemed huge. FF a year and half later and the media
is dirt cheap, storage has gone way down in price and I shoot 100% of my own stuff and about 70% RAW for the clients now and when editing, Cinema RAW Light is really
no more burdensome than the Prores 4K I am shooting with the BMD UMP G2 I am reviewing, but the 12-bit RAW looks better and has significantly more DR possible.

I'm not under Sony NDA but I will be surprised if the camera is a mini Venice, it seems more likely to simply be an upgraded FS7MKII with a FF imager, 6k.
I would be surprised to see a metal PMW level EVF at the $12k price range but you are right, the FS7 MKII broadcast thing means it's possible. It all just depends in how much
pressure Sony feels from the C500 MKII (likely not very much as the FS7 trounced the C300 MKII in the marketplace), and all of the cheaper 6K options at $4k and under.

Someone on the NewsShooter write-up of the 500II posted this link to an EU distributor:

https://www.ebdn-partners.eu

IBC 2019 - SONY will introduce the NEW 6K Full Frame PXW-FX9 camera. It is scheduled to ship December 2019.

This camera can be seen as the new Full Frame version of the popular PXW-FS7 with a new proprietary AI Autofocus System (Face/Eye detection) as available on SONY flagship DSLR cameras.

EBDN Ltd. will offer a Trade-In program on the PXW-FX9 camera.
We will give you the opportunity to trade-in your EBDN/Creative Ventures purchased FS7 or FS7MKII towards
the new PXW-FX9.

Our partner/resellers are welcome to meet and discuss purchase quantities at IBC 2019 - Amsterdam.

As we did in the past we will organise some demo/workshop events in Ireland and throughout the EU where customers can meet each other and exchange their equipment face to face. We will also buy back cameras we sold in the past.

A new PXW-FX6 (Full Frame successor to the popular PXW-FS5) is expected to be introduced at IBC 2019 - Amsterdam as well. This camera is only expected to ship Spring 2020.

Oh wow. December of this year is just around the corner. And lemme just say... if all Sony dealers offer a trade-in program....yikes! I didn't know I was in the market to replace my FS7...
