i7 Premiere previews

I recently upgraded my computer to an i7 system with 6gb triple channel 1066 RAM, RAID0 (2xSamsung 750GB).

With Adobe Premiere CS4 (4.1) I can edit AVCHD from my 150 natively with only the odd stutter now and again. But when I insert a simple cross disolve transition, 8 out of ten times it gets stuck, freezes the image and only catches up with the scrolling timeline ten or seconds later. This is when I havent rendered it (i.e with the redbar accross the top), once rendered it's fine.

This happens with preview on Highest Quality or Draft.

Am I being unrealistic hoping for a smooth realtime preview or could it be my graphics card needs updating: Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT (256mb)??

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks

Strange...

Strange...

That's strange.

I got an i7 processor myself not too long ago running with 12 GB of memory on Vista 64 bit with a GeForce 8600 GT video card and Premiere CS4 (4.1) does not shutter or freeze on me hardly ever.

Very strange.

The video card does seem to be the most likely suspect. I'm only running 4 gig of ram with rarely a stuttering problem...

I have an i7 setup with a nvidia gtx260 and 6 gigs of ram and I'm using premiere 4.1 in windows 7. The performance is great, I can edit everything without any problem and sometimes I can even playback transitions.

i would assume any non-rendered preview in premiere (ie: red bar) would stutter regardless of what hardware you are running.

By not rendering the preview your esentially just putting the transition on top of the MTS in its raw transport stream causing your ram to buffer it as the timeline arrow scrubs over it.

Normally its good to render the previews if your attempting to preview your stuff.

And plus, you got that i7 ;) should be quite fast to render the preview.

ot really, I'm able to preview some things with effects as brightness or speed change effects applied that have red bars. I suppose that it all depends on the hardware you are using.

Hmmm, just swapped out my GeForce 7200 for a GeForce 9500 GT 1GB, no difference.

I should add I'm using Vista 64x.

I'm starting to think the RAID0 on this MSI Platinum systmboard isnt keeping up (all project files are in the same folder on this drive, previews on a seperate disk). I dont see what else it could be...?
