correct me if im wrong, isnt the i7 with hyperthreading only 8 cores, how are you setting up 16 cores ?

vegas automatically defaults to the maximum amount of threads you can use ,so i guess it can use 16 lol

at any rate i doubt it slows down performance even it cant use that many

There are only 4 cores on the i7-2600k. Each core supports two execution threads. Vegas knows you don't have 16 threads, so it will use the 8 actual ones.

What hyperthreading does, is it tells a core to toggle back-and-forth between two execution threads at a set interval (50% time for each thread). It doesn't really help much, unless a particular thread is holding up the execution queue, which then makes that core just sit there doing nothing. So instead of the core sitting idle, it allows another thread to execute through the core at 50% speed (the other 50% is still devoted to the "waiting" thread.)
