I Witness - The Face of Love (China trip)

Hey all,

A team of us Asian "Ex-pats" (from America, Italy, Singapore, and Malaysia) went to Yunnan, China to visit some minority people groups (25 of 55 Chinese minority groups reside in the Yunnan province). Not only was it a very eye-opening and fruitful experience, but I got to take some footage, as well. :) I plan to make a documentary but that is still in the works... so I made this in the meantime.

(If you guys would like to see it in better quality I can upload it to my site... but it is 74 mbs, so I momentarily just put it on YouTube for faster loading.)

The below link is a "trailer of sorts" for the documentary I am making...

Any comments/help on the pacing of the movie? I found that I was not very satisfied with it... though I can't quite pin-point the problem. I want to make it "touching" without being "slow" or "boring"...
Hmm.

hey, maybe at the beginning with the image of the map matted over the footage, do a slow zoom into the word Yunnan?

In order to make a documentary not "slow" or "boring", keep it flowing and tight. Don't dwell on interviews or anything that doesn't serve the purpose of your film or adds to the message you had in mind.

And always keep in mind how you're representing other people in your film. Editing is highly manipulative and can take anything out of context and renders out a false representation.

Good luck!
