I Want My NBA!!!

Actually, the Heat's playoff run in '06 was pretty amazing- beating the Bulls in 5, the Nets in 5, the Pistons in 6, then oh, right- the Mavs in 6, and were only the 3rd team in NBA history to win a Finals after being down 0-2...

But yeah, I'm havin' Hoop Dreams tonight...

This season is going to be pure fire right from game 1. Every superstar highly motivated by months and months of simmering personal rivalries (charity games, private games) then add that virtually every top echelon team is gettin old and feeling like this is their last chance. Gunning it every night. I guess there's rust and a compressed schedule, but these are top top craftsmen and artists, they'll work it out.

Truth be told don't you sort of wish every season was like this--start with the christmas games, then 40 game regular season, then the playoffs? Enjoy, I know i will.

^ Exactly.

A short season = an intense season. Actually helps old teams like the Celtics.

Less of the "It's a long year, first half of the season doesn't matter" mindset.

Where are you/who's your team, Replica?

Hey... if they're you're team, they're your team. Raptors- say it loud, say it proud!

Me? HUGE Heat fan! I started a Finals thread last time, went to a couple games each playoff series...
I'm likin' Bosh more than many do, I think he will fit in and contribute much more this year. Thanks for sending him south!!!
Big adjustment for him to go from the big man to fitting in with Wade and James.

But I think they'll all improve this year- James included, people!!!

I have respect for Bosh. He actually was in tears after their loss (unlike Lebron and Dwayne). I expect a big year from him.

No man, Wade was feeling it, big time... the Heat's still his team, he feels responsible for every loss.

He should shine this year with the shorter season- he was playing hurt much of last year.

Not a huge NBA fan (I like NCAA better), and I think 66 games is plenty. The season, and especially playoffs drag on forever and ever in the NBA. But I'm glad it's back for several reasons. Economics mostly. Entertainment too.

Not happy about the Lakers getting Howard (a foregone conclusion). It seems like after all that talk about the lockout about making the league have more parity, it's the same old same old, and the rich just keep getting richer. But as long as they can beat the Heat, I'd still cheer for them if that's what it comes to. Actually, it's not the Heat I dislike, it's you know who.

Maybe not the nicest thing but oh how you'll laugh 1:11 in:

Not nice? Hmmm... I'd say that's a flagrant foul! Bosh didn't adjust very well, but I expect he'll do much better this year.

I'd say there's a slight improvement in parity, but not near as much as in the NFL. But the players gave up much more than the owners- big surprise there.... not.

And yeah, the $ea$on and the playoff$ are too long, but money talk$ and there'$ plenty of that in the playoff$- that'$ why NBA, NFL and MLB all added a round of playoff$...

But all the Heat/LBJ/Miami haters are welcome, we're used to it- Miami, the most hated city (sort of) in America...

It's going to be a great season, starting with Day 1- Christmas. What a gift!!!

Yeah. Probably right about the video. I'm actually a pretty big fan of CB, there's just something about his public persona... its like he wants to come across as this really extravagant, Baron Davis-like figure, when in reality he's just this sweet, decent, kinda quiet guy. and i think it reflects in his play. Anyway. i can't imagine discussing Bosh is the main interest of the NBA's return so i'm going to give it a rest. Though to say i think you're right about him having a monster year. There were long-ish stretches when he was here when he completely dominated. They should isolate him on the low post and just watch him destroy whoever's covering him. Give Bron and Wade a little room. I sort of like miami, it's showtime that gets me down.

CAN'T WAIT FOR LEAGUE PASS TO GO ON SALE!!! (wonder if they're going to discount it as a fan appreciation thing???)

The problem is it completely waters down the product. The NBA season lasts, what, eight full months? The NFL is five, and it's pushing the limit.

Bosh IS a quiet decent guy (with a very, uh, expressive face?), in a league where loud and flashy gets attention.
And I (unfortunately) live in a loud, flashy city. I prefer to let the product speak for itself.
BUT, Bosh has been working out with former Heat Biceps of the East Alonzo Mourning- put some meat and muscle on the frame, Slim!!!

Agreed! And don't get me started on MLB. I love the game, but what is it, a 15 month, 937 game, 11 hour/game season???

Yes, MLB season is just as long as the NBA. They could definitely go back to 148 games, and best of 3 playoff series, with only the WS being 7 games. MLB also needs to find a way to speed up the game. Games that were once 2.5 hours, are now commonly 3.5 hours.

NHL rule changes are now better, but it's too long of season also. Same as the NBA actually. Both could go to 66 games, and make the first round of the playoffs best of 3, and second best of 5.

NFL definitely does NOT need to go to 18 games, or expand their playoffs.

Of course, none will do this, because they see money in more games.

Howard to the Lakers? Really ?

Like Gasol when he was sent over for like Me and some dude from the local bowling league ? What is it with the Association and the Lakers ? Oh yeah, The Logo.

Howard wants to be an actor and hip hop artist and part of the Hollywood culture. It seems like there is no chance he will stay with Orlando, and the Lakers are the one team he wants to play for. Lots of talk on ESPN and FoxSports about it. And elsewhere. Link 1. Link 2. Link 3. Considering that the luxury tax this year is almost the same as last, it stands to reason that the Lakers could shed Bynum and a future garbage pick for him, sign him to a fat contract, and give them a great shot at the championship for the next couple years until Kobe gets too old/slow/worn out. By then, they can dump him, right as the new CBA rules take the most affect regarding the luxury tax. Orlando will go for it, despite Bynum being considered by many to be overrated, simply because Howard will leave for free agency, and they'll want something in return.

This is the perfect example why I have said (maybe elsewhere) that the new CBA doesn't really hurt the star players, the big names are still going to get giant pay checks and still have a great deal of leverage. And in one of those links it talks about Chris Paul going to the Lakers as well. Though in 3 years that would put them in serious pinch with the luxury tax.

I actually don't think this new CBA will do that much for parity like it was touted. The one thing it does is placate the owners who were really hurting, as in raw numbers with this CBA the owners get more money. So with this new CBA we'll still see LA vs. Boston or Miami, Dallas, the Knicks may improve, and these teams will continue to win. But true small market teams will still only have an outside chance. The difference is that their owners might make some money.

Congrats, Terry!

Here's the Xmas schedule, and some Bosh quotes (for the Bosh lovers and haters) from the Miami Herald:

The NBA will feature five games on Christmas Day.

The Knicks and Celtics tip off the league’s shortened season at noon on TNT.
The Heat and Mavericks are up next on ABC, followed by Bulls-Lakers.
ESPN will air the final two games of the day: Magic at Thunder and Clippers at Warriors.

The NBA is expected to release each team’s 66-game schedule at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Bosh summed up the return to Dallas appropriately on Friday after an individual workout at AmericanAirlines Arena.
“It’s going to [stink],” he said.
The experience should be especially searing for Bosh, who is from Dallas. So frustrated with last season’s loss in the Finals was Bosh that he only visited his native city for less than a week during the extended offseason.

“I haven’t been in Dallas for Christmas in a couple years now and just to be there and have that effect going on at that time, I’m not going to like it,” Bosh said. “I spent less than a week at home this year for a bunch of different reasons. That was one of them. I didn’t even want to hear all the fans. It’s funny because there weren’t that many Mavericks fans when I was a kid, but now everybody is a Mavericks fan.”

Bosh said both teams will treat the season opener like a continuation of the last season’s Finals. Inevitably, talk veered toward the Heat’s collapse.
“The Finals, period, is a roller coaster,” Bosh said. “Being up 2-1 ... you’re that close to winning it all; you’re that close to losing it all. And you just have to play each game and each possession until it’s all over. I think that’s one thing that we can really teach ourselves — just stay tight until it’s all over.”

The 66-game schedule has raised a few concerns among players.

The truncated format likely will force each team to play at least one back-to-back-to-back set.

“Once we get into it, we can ask veterans for advice, but I’m thinking the usual stuff: take care of your body, make sure you get enough rest and just concentrate on one game at a time,” Bosh said. “I’m sure back-to-back-back is very tough, and everyone is going to see what it feels like.”
