Ok let me rephrase and state my demands for TV makers. I'm looking at you samsung...
I, Darren, do not want you to alter my TV image, and most people i know, are confused as to why their movies look like soap operas on your TVs. And then I, Darren, have to explain to them what your tru-motion crap is and what it does and that it's the reason movies look like utter garbage on your TVs.
For those of you out of the loop on TV tech, certain tvs, most notably samsungs, have a "feature" which essentially removes the motion blur, rendering movies into absurdity. The average user doesn't know why nor know that they have the ability to turn it off, and samsung has it enabled by default, dug several layers deep into the menu system.
I know this is entirely hyperbole, but im in a ranting state of mind. because it's utterly absurd that billions of dollars are spend yearly to make movies look as they do, as we expect them to, as we enjoy them to(well not all movies but you get the idea), only to have TV sets everywhere entirely change what it looks like.
If you have no idea what i'm talking about, just go to a best buy or other tv retailer and just look at thier TVs, chances are you'll see what im talking about right away, especially if they have a movie you know playing. I was at my friends house and the 5th element was on, and it looked practically animated because of the tru-motion.
I know nothing about starting petitions, but if anyone does, let's petition tv makers to stop this nonsense. You could say that it's pointless, but under this pet peeve of a rant is the thought that should any film i work on actually get aired on TV, to dvd, netflix or otherwise, might end up being watched with these "enhancements"
As with the star wars special edition "enhancement", i think this technology should be shelved. Or more reasonably, be defaulted to OFF, not ON.
