Let me give you an example of why that's funny. Today I interviewed a fashion icon. To get there it cost 26$ by cab, with all the gear. Lunch was 13$ (a sandwich and a coffee) and the ridw back home was 27$. Grand total of 66$ just to get out of the house to work. That's how much it costs in nyc just to get to and from work. Nothing o show for it. Almost 70$ vaporized.
 
I saw a pretty ridiculous one on Craigslist - SF Bay Area about a week ago. 10 hours of work working on something for a purported major company... for $120.

I could make more than that, in much less time, prepping food for a breakfast catering.
 
or mowing a lawn, and trimmin hedges.... or cleaning an apartment as a maid, or being a CEO of a fortune five hundred company for 1/10th of a second....

Yeah I called about that gig. To me the money doesnt matter, I just want to be used and have all my gear used. In the end I did have to turn them down though. When I asked how many times a day I would be whiped like dog, he said none at all. Total deal breaker for me.
 
The reality is this. So many people bought 5D/7D's that they are essentially "dime a dozen" in the market. This has two effects. For the first year or so, its chaos. The legitimizing factor of owning gear gets alot of beginners work, but flushes the system with high volume, low pay stuff. More experinced shooters get nervous. The second effect, is: Cream Rises to the Top. After a year of getting crap results from people who are inexperienced, producers remember why you cost what you cost after all.

This happened with the DVX, HVX, adapters and now the HDSLR's. i give it 6 more months before the hysteria does down. I have to admit, i have never had so many people ask for me by name, not for my 5D, but for my eye and abilities. feels good. :) i dont mind seeing these ads. I just feel bad for the sap that takes it.
