I am editing a film that is using footage from an HVX200 as footage shot by one of the characters on a camcorder. (irrelevant data)

I come to the show late in the game, HVX footage is trans-coded to DVCPro HD. MXF files are gone, maybe.

All the HVX footage is living @ DVCPro HD 720p60 23.98, 960*720. Most of the footage seems to sync up to second system sound fine. but....

There's a huge 3 page speech this kid delivers and that footage seems to play slow. I need to play it at 112% in FCP to make the sound look okay for about 5 seconds at a time, until the drift becomes obvious.

The trans-coded QT's have sound at the start, but it's out of sync, and stops after 20 seconds or so.

My question is does this sound like a problem in transcode and should I spend time looking for a backup of the MXF files to re-transcode. Or does this sound like it was shot in slo-mo, and I should just change speed and export, and be thankful its playing as source video.

In case your reading Akron, this is one of MANY issues.

If there is sound at the start of the transcoded files, and it's out of sync - that sounds like a transcode issue to me.
I would look for a backup of the MXF files to be certain before doing much of anything else.

Slo-mo footage on the HVX200 does not record audio - so there wouldn't be any audio on the footage if it had been overcranked by accident.
Not that doesn't mean it wasn't shot in the wrong framerate, but it wasn't overcranked.

But the audio weirdness your describing in the QT files makes me think it's a transcode issue.
That would be my first step anyhow.

Good luck.
