I think I am an idiot! Please Help

Hi All.

I have been doing some test shots with my brandy new GH1 and I am having trouble with the footage in FCP.

I have been shooting in FHD mode, which the manual says is 60i but when I log and transfer into FCP, and change the sequence settings, then pull the clips into the timeline it says the sequence settings do not meet the clip settings. When I say yes to change it, it converts the sequence settings to 30 frames/sec. when I look at the format of the clip, it tells me it was shot in 29.97 fps. I have no idea how to change this.

Please Help me!

You need to remove the pulldown from the clips, see the above sticky about FCP, JES, and Compressor.

I had read the sticky post, but I am trying to edit footage at 60 FPS. When I check the format of the clips transfered from the card, it says that it was shot in 29.97 FPS. In order to edit at 60 FPS, do I need to follow the steps in the sticky post?

Yes, you need to use one of the methods after transcoding in order to edit it @ 24p (or at all really, given that every few frames will be interlaced) in FCP.

I am using the compressor method because I find it the easiest but it takes the longest I think. JES deinterlacer is pretty fast and is free.

On the GH1 (and most every codec I can think of) 1080 HD is 30 FRAMES per second... the 60i designation is referring to the fact that it is interlaced,
so it is 60 FIELDS per second (2 interlaced fields per each frame)

If you want or need 60 frames per second for some reason, you should shoot in the 720 mode. 720P is capable of 60 progressive frames per second.

Yes. Also the sensor output is 24p encoded in 60i with a telecine pulldown, you need to remove this to edit in 24p...which is what the codec is designed to be used for.

Or you can deinterlace 60i into 60p, but I don't know whether the GH1 shoots native 60i, I think it shoots only 24p-over-60i only.
