I smashed my LCD screen. Doh! What should I do?

My camera fell of a dolly and hit the ground with the LCD screen flipped out taking all the weight of the camera and lens adapter. How much would it cost to get repaired and where should I do this? Any help would be much appreciated. BTW I'm in London.

Oh god, I really, really don't want to be you :p

Anyway, best things you can do is go asking Pana themself. We can't do anything here (I think so, maybe there's somebody with extraordinary power here :p)

Is this a HVX200 or HVX200A? If it is a 200 , could he replace the LCD with an HD 200A LCD?

I'd like to do this to my HVX200 as focusing on an SD LCD is painful!

If my camera fell, the LCD would be the least of my worries. First I would check the optics to make sure everything is ok. Sometimes shock can cause a shift in the internal lens system which will make your image out of focus, even if just slightly. Don't ask how I know :(

Not sure, as far a I can track there are about 5 versions of the HVX camera,
I would replace it with an exact matching part.

I disassembled my HVX200P a day ago, and I can tell that the LCD Screen replacement as well as the EVF is something that a user can do with a screwdriver and the right replacement part. (Will post pictures soon in forum).

I don't think mixing and matching parts would work, unless the entire PCB and firmware is replaced, the 200A has a few boards that may be quite different from the 200 and 200P

Hey man. Any luck with those pics?

Just a heads up for you guys. We replace them but despite my best attempts to contact the forum admin here to advertise I've never received a response. So I'm not going to spam the board with my services but I can tell you that the LCD is the same in the DVX100B as well so if you can find a cheap or broken DVX100B you can just snag the display from that.

You need to find a shop that has used parts from other cameras around because just the LCD from Panasonic is ~$600 and considering you can get an HVX for under $1000 used with little drama, it's a hard expense to justify. So find someone that has broken DVX's around and they should be able to get you squared away.

The problem is that hvx200 and 200a displays are not the same thing. Official Panasonic service in Russia asks about $950 for complete LCD door. And another $200 for just replacement. Damn I can buy oled 7" smallhd display for that price!

I don't doubt that the part numbers are difference but I'm nearly (as in 95%) certain that they are interchangeable without issue. Even newer cameras like the HMC150 I believe still use that display though I'm not as certain on that one. Panasonic must have had a lot of those displays hanging around. The only real tangible difference between the HVX200 and 200a is the 1/2 stop difference in light sensitivity.

If you'd like I can confirm this sometime this week. I think we have an HVX200a here that needs a board swap so it wouldn't be too much extra drama to check the display.

As you wish. But rumors says that display from 200 have not even the same connection scheme as 200a.

Rumors are wrong. :D I only made the suggestion because I work on these cameras every day. The only camera I'm not sure of is the DVX100a. The DVX100 for sure uses a different connection for it's LCD and thus a different part. I believe the DVX100a uses the newer connection (but might be wrong) and I know the DVX100B does. We actually just stuck a DVX100B screen in an HPX170 last week.

The HVX and HPX cameras were pretty heavily criticized for that abysmal flip out screen anyhow which makes sense when you consider it's SD origins.
