I simply can't focus my AF100 with it's build in FA. Need on camera monitor advice.

The TV Logic VFM-056 offers more than just waveform. It also has vectorscope, variable aspect ratios, incl. 2:35, luma check(like false color), embedded TC and audio level meters via HD SDI. I got an email from my rep, who is the master distributor for TV Logic in the US, he had just arrived in Korea and is meeting with TV Logic all week. I have asked him to find out if we can get a group discount and to make a dual battery bracket using AF100/HMC150 batteries so we don't have to use two different batteries with AF100/monitor.

I have used TV Logic monitors since 2008 and they have been great at firmware updates, including a tranluscent back on their scopes, good UI, customer service from their distributor. TV Logic is known among high-end users in production and post, and has a very large array of models, including OLED.

Even if you don't need a waveform/vector for the AF100, you should ask yourself if the AF100 is the last camera you will use? The higher end cameras DON'T have scopes.

I have a TV Logic VFM-056 on order, so I get nothing out of a group buy unless I buy a second unit, but if you're interested in Small HD DP6, you should check out TV Logic, IMO.

Do you think the TV Logic monitor will be more color-accurate or show less banding then the DP6? Or will the image quality be the same due to having (or maybe not having) the same panel/image processor?

Just heard back from my smallHD contact, and they are discussing a group buy option, so stay tuned. They also let me know that they are adding additional features soon, as you can upgrade the firmware on the DP6 through the USB port on it. Very exciting to me. For those that have private messaged me, no need. When I find out more, I will post here and put a pointer to a new thread. The last updated they did was adding in the peaking and focus assist which works great. Also, which I loved on my 7D was the auto-scaling you can setup so that when the DSLR switches to a different resolution, the monitor automatically detects this and changes to a user defined preset, or you can use one of the built in presets where they have done the work for you.

Great question, I'll find out. I lobbied very hard to have Flanders do that and it was included in their last FW update after sending it to me in beta.

I am reviewing the Cineroid EVF with my AF101 and all I can say is that I will be purchasing one of these as a must for critical focus. I did try out Barry's idea of turning the AF101s EVF to B&W and using the focus assist and it also works a dream but I am afraid in't down to real estate, the Cineroid is as big as an EX-3 viewfinder and just as sharp, well recommended. NOTE : You will need a mini HDMI to HDMI lead for the AF101 as the Cineroid comes with two mini HDMI ends on it. PS. It also uses the Sony NP-F570 Li-ion batteries.

I absolutely detest mini-HDMI at this point. Just bumping the cable a little bit and snap goes the connector. I've seen some people build aftermarket holders and there is a few companies that make really strong mini-HDMI (or is it micro?) but I've yet to see one that even a little bit of pull doesn't destroy in no time.

I've been negotiating with SmallHD about the DP6 group buy and anyone interested should contact me privately. Working on something special for a small group of DVX users. Those who already posted they were interested (or already private messaged me) you are at the top of the list. Please send me your name as well as I coordinate this. It won't be a group buy, but something different. And, it's for a limited number of people.

Okay, all those that haven't messaged me your names so I can relay back to smallHD, please send. I had ten slots for this, and we've hit ten. I will be sending out details soon privately to all of you on this. Here is the list, if you end up not being interested in the offer, please let me know so I can offer it to someone else (or at least, get me the name to transfer the offer to of another DVXUser).

Thanks! Just double-checking. Are you talking about the DP6-SDI or DP6-HDMI? Right now I can only go for an HDMI, and if the idea was to get SDI for everyone then please give my slot to someone else.

I can't find a price on the TV Logic VFM056W anywhere. Does anyone know how much it costs? I want to make sure the DP6 is the one I want and if the TV Logic (even with waveform and such ) is cost prohibitive then I don't need to worry about it.

Here's what I found, for the TV logic:

VFM-056W 5.6" View Finder LCD monitor. HD/SD-SDI, HDMI and Analog inputs. $1,195
VFM-056WP All of the VFM-056W featuers plus: 3G, Y level check and Waveform/Vector scope $1,595

My discount price on the TV Logic is the same as the list price for a Small HD. Being that it has more features and a name known to higher end clients, TV Logic is a no brainer for us. Obviously, if Small HD comes out with a good discount, that makes it very enticing. Variable markers are a must, scopes are nice when used with other cameras, embedded TC and audio meters are convenient. Both brands offer a panel that has fantastic resolution, perfect for shallow DOF cameras. My positive experiences with TV Logic since 2008 make it a safe bet for us.
