There really are differences in the quality of the images produced by cheap lenses like Sigma and the more expensive, higher quality lenses from Canon, Nikon, or Zeiss. The difference in price you pay for the lens translates into real differences in what you see on the screen. So it is with sound, especially when it comes to microphones. If you want professional quality results, reliability, and longevity you have to pay the price for professional gear. There's an old American saying "There is no such thing as a free lunch" that comes to mind.

Well first as others pointed out those cheap lenses are not as good as the pricier ones. Whether they are "good enough" for you is a personal choice. There are "inexpensive" quality options. You look at something like the Sen. and why isn't there a cheap option. What you miss is that it IS the cheap option. The expensive options are upward of $2,000 a channel. Fisher Price made a video camera once. You can get that equivalent mic for cheap, but it's garbage.

As far as cheap mics go Oktava is a very good mic at a low price. Heil mics are also a very good value. CAD makes so very decent mics at low prices. At times even RadioShack has had quality mics at very good prices. If you want to hunt you can find bargains, but they will hardly ever be in the cheap mics sold as "professional" by retailers selling to amateurs. Go to indi music production sites/ magazines and such. TapeOp is one good place. Learn a lot about mics and define what your needs are (they are not quite the same as music folks). At that point you can see a cheap mic and find out if it's any good and if so does it fit your needs.

If you work at it you can collect a nice collection of good mics with out spending a ton of money.

Some things are easier to do cheap. A jib arm for instance is a fairly simple device that can be made with out a lot of precision tools. Mics and lenses can't.

That's just two cheap transmitters bundled together with a cheap 2-channel receiver. You're getting the same thing as buying 2 cheap single channel kits.

Shop based on quality, reliability, durability, manufacturer support. Price is certainly important but it should not be your driving factor, it should come after those four factors in your decision matrix. Azden does not have as high a reputation for quality as does Sennheiser, Lectro, etc amongst many sound professionals.

Azden seems to be trying to improve their brand reputation.
But I have not seen any first-hand reviews from knowledgeable users to confirm whether this is perceptible in the quality/performance of the goods.

Yes, that is still very cheap, as Steve has said.

Really - the Sennheiser G3 series should be used as the benchmark for the cheapest system to use.

If you can't afford them, either hire or look around for second-hand G2 systems.

look around for second-hand G2 systems.
]After doing your research on how to spot Chinese counterfeited G2's of course.
And remembering to avoid 698-806MHz units which are now illegal.

OTOH...
"Amid some controversy, no licenses were sold in Block D (758–763 and 788–793 MHz) because the reserve price was not met. The FCC had set the reserve price on the spectrum at $1.3 billion, but the highest bidder (Qualcomm) only bid $472 million. This piece of spectrum remains unsold and has not been scheduled for another auction."

Indeed. In that case, our (USA) loss is everyone else's gain. Really good 700MHz equipment made a mass emigration to "greener pastures" in the last year or so. At fire-sale prices.

umm, new to sounds..and have same feeling as OP.
for many photography gear..like tripod..flash..flash radio trigger...studio strobe..softbox.etc..we can still get pretty decent quality one at a lot less expensive price...
I think the reason is for photography gear there is some not famous brand out there produce quality gear at much lower price..

it seems wireless mic is a very high-end technology..not many facatory can produce quality one..so the price is very high
