I ordered the Nikon D800 for Uncompressed 4:2:2 video. I know it is only 8 but, but I know this is going to be one kick ass camera. I had a D90 that I dumped for canon cameras. But Now I am switching back to Canon. I have no prefference one way or the other for which company is better. I just wanted uncompressed video. I have the Blackmagic Hyperdeck. Which only cost $320. I had an extra SSD drive.

Once I get the camera in my hands I will post tests as usual.

I will first test out the low light capabilities. Then the Clean hdmi out.

Any other suggestions?

If I did not care about uncompressed I would have gone with the Canon 5d MKIII, It has I frames up to 90 Mbt's of data... Pretty nice if you do not want uncompressed footage.

Don't believe the hype about 36 million pixels being too much.. That is like saying SD is better then HD. Because it has less pixels.

Just wait for the cameras to come out and you will see amazing footage from both of these great cameras.

One is not better then the other. It just depends on your needs.

I don't know... But I highly suspect the low light capabilities of the D800 are going to be incredible.

Oh I almost forgot. I really got the D800 because it has USB 3.0.. That is obviously the most overlooked feature of the century. LOL

I'm waiting for reviews and analysis of these two machines. The uncompressed output on the D800 seems cool. I'm rooting for Nikon because I have about a dozen Nikon lenses, including the 17-35 AFS and 80-200 2.8 zooms, plus a dozen manual focus primes. But then again Canon has an impressive bitrate that may eliminate the need for a clunky external flash recorder. Plus it is likely the better lowlight camera.

For now, I'm enjoying the hackable mini-miracle that is the gh2.

But I say bring it on. This is a good time to be a filmmaker; the cost barrier to entry has never been lower.

It's unlikely that the D800 will have as good low-light capabilities as the MKIII, since the pixel size is almost half. The D4, though, with a 7.1 micron pixel size, ought to be the best of all the new cameras, assuming a good implementation by Nikon.
