I'm located in Los Angeles and can't seem to find any rental houses that carry the HVR-A1U.
If you're local and have on I'd like to rent it from you. It will not be used to shoot anything. It will be parked on a tripod and FW into a Mac mini in order to test a few of it's features. So there is less than zero risk and absolutely NO wear and tear involved.
We are located in a nice secure office building and have plenty of insurance.
Let me know if you can help me out.
Thanks!
