I was hired as a "camera operator" by a friend of mine who is filming a short this month. I booked a spring break vacation between March 24th and 30th, thinking we would have completed filming the week prior to leaving. Well, the shoot got pushed back, and rather than making them push it back again..I decided to lend them the camera for the film.
Yes, I know I'm never gonna hear the end of it...I know this is a bad idea.
However, the friend I am loaning it to (the cinematographer) has let me borrow his glidecam set up many times, and I feel that letting him borrow it for a week wouldn't be so bad of a trade off for all of the generosity going around.
So.....what is the quickest way I can give this puppy an insurance policy?
I need coverage for damage, most importantly. Then again...theft would be great. I know that I DO have renter's insurance through my apartment building....but how would I get this to cover the camera?
I basically need an insurance policy that says If I, or the guy i am loaning it to, breaks or loses the camera, I can be fully reinstated (or very close to "full.)
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I trust my friend...its the laws of murphy, gravity and nature that I dont trust.
EDIT: I forgot to mention...the film is entirely independent with no contracts or companies involved. Everyone is getting paid cash for this. So...any sort of contract is sort of out of the picture..unless there's a way i can draft my own, of course. Wow, those 2 day notary liscense programs are looking good right about now
