I need help......please.

Hello everybody. I am one of those quiet readers from this site. Everything is very new to me. I would like to thank you guys for all the help you give each other. New bees like me learn a lot. Now I get stuck on a specific problem and I am pulling my hairs out. (There are not long as there are hahahaha )
I see all the nice short films/ Trailers etc. I tried so many different settings but I just can’t get the nice look when it is compressed like you all get when I see it on a website posted. I do have Vegas 4, No DVD, and the full version of QuickTime 6. Please anybody on here can tell me step by step how I go about from the final timeline in Vegas 4 to a nice clip I can post in QuickTime, so it looks great and it’s not Gigabits big?? Please do not use too much technical terms… there are all so new to me. Thanks so very much. I hope I post this on the correct category.

Hi Susan,
I am going to one of may approaches to your issue, but this is how I do it.

Export from Vegas as QT uncompressed(big File). Open file in Quicktime Pro export as Mpeg 4. Save as 320x240.
If still too big export as Sorrenson 3.mov

Thanks so very much for your help. I tried it. Let me see if I do this correct. I render in Vegas to QT5 using Video: 23.976 fps, 720x480x32 because I shot in 24P. Video and Music sounds great. File is big. No problem.
Now………… when I export this to MPG4 in QT I do have 2 possibilities.
1. From the Export dropdown menu I can choose “Movie to MPG4”. When I push the Options button I get this big window. On the top “General” then Video Track “improved” Size: 320x240 Audio music.
2. If I export the movie like that………the file I get is a file… no QT or anything like that in the windows explorer. And I can’t open the file any more in QT either. But strange wise if I post it on the web………. I can see it. Why is that?? How can I export that so I really get a QT file (MPG4) I can use on my computer or able to send it to somebody?

If I use the second option to export and choose “Movie to Quick Time Movie… And then under options I select the MPG4 option……… I get the same thing. A darn file I can’t use anywhere except when I post it.

The strange thing is that with all the playing around before I ever posted and ask this question on this site I got somehow a MPG4 file on my computer. But I can’t reproduce it.

I know I am a pain in the ass now…….. but I really need go get this issue some how solved. Please…. Anybody……. ??? :'(

Hey has anybody used Divx (its also mpeg4) im not sure but after using prettey much every compression (almost) i find Divx to give the best Quality/ File size ratio, give this a go, use something live Virtual Dub and import the avi file and compress the audio using a mp3 compression at really low rates to further save on file size.

Damn almost forgot if you want good comression do AT least a two pass and do three pass's to get the best result.

Yes Divx is also another option to try.
The only problenm is if the end user has it on there computer.

Susan regarding the other problems, I really don't know.

Try the second option out of Vegas and make a Sorrenson 3 .mov file. Anyone should be able to play that.

Compression is HELL. But useful.
