I desparately need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just shot a short movie for a church and I can not get clean footage into the computer, using sony Vaio computer and the footage is dropping frames and studdering like crazy, i several programs, Vegas, Pinnacle liquid 6, pinnacle studio 9, adobe 6.5 and other low end programs and none work. any suggestion beside a gun jammed in my mouth. I just bought this camera and already feel burdened.
feel free to call me directly 215.989.2976 or 1.888.569.4170 :undecided

Dropped frames almost always means the computer can't handle the throughput, whether because the hard drive is too slow (or badly fragmented), or that there're too many other processes running (even background system processes). Turn everything else off - antivirus, included.

Well if you want to shed the camera, just mail it to me! lol

Seriously, maybe it's your pull down, the puter's hardware like lack of memory. Try to bring in some older footage and see if it has the same issue.

GenJerDan, lol. We posted at the same exact time! lol I'm glad to see your response is along the same as mine. This tells me that I'm actually learning from you guys!

and church people dont forgive!

probably a fragmented disk problem. or your pc has too much stuff running in the background (antivirus, firewall, viruses, etc). reboot if you didnt already. close any running SW you can close.

next step: i would try with another tool. it's called dvio (just one executable, dvio.exe), about 32k in size and freeware. it is for acquiring dv->pc and viceversa. it has two buttons: 'acquire from tape' and 'output to tape'.
http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm

if this doesnt work try cleaning up more space on your HD, defragment, optimize the system.

if still you dont get it ok, call second level help desk. :)

I had a vaio..........my suggestion, get a G5, I basically had to almost completely rebuild my vaio cause it just wasent a quality product, sorry to tell you something you may not want to hear. See if you can fix your computer with the problems stated above, see if a friend or contact will lend an editing system out, look for editing space that rents for $$, or do it anolog, I know that is a scary alternative, bt it is an alternative non-the-less

make sure you capture to a separate hard drive that doesn't have your OS on it. internal hard drive or external. just make sure it's 7200 rpm. keep the drive at least 50% free space, defrag before and after capturing, and after rendering too.

Are you using a Firewire connection? I have a brand new Dell that drops frames if I don't use my firewire port.

Rjohnson-

This may NOT be want you want to hear but misery loves company. If you look at the thread entitled CHOPPY FOOTAGE started by yours truly RLM7189, I think you will see that I am experiencing the same God awfully frustrating problem. Take a look, you might find an answer there that suits you. I just bought a new firewire cable. No luck. Tried old tapes, no luck. What I WILL do is defragment my computer. And make sure nothing else is running. If that doesn't work then I will be right with you with the gun in my mouth.

Elaborate. Is it technically "dropping frames," as reported by the Premier capture utility or does it simply have the appearance of choppy? Have you shot in 24p or 24pa modes? Your posts are vague. Adobe offers 90 days of technical support over the phone for registered users, if you weren't already aware.

Video editing on any kind of computer is a technical marvel. They are tricky to get running and even harder to keep them running. Your problems are not unusual, if that's any consolation.

Close all other programs and extentions, A very good idea is to format your main harddrive so that it is too drives. One will be used for video work, the other will be used to log on to the internet for upgrades and other programs that you may use. Then you start up from the video work only disk image to do your capture and editing. You have your system software on both disk images. Of course you also have your second physical harddrive to capture and edit to.

What I'm saying is you have two physical drives formated in such a way that you have three disk drive images. The one you will keep striped down to use only for video work. No firewalls no on line access etc, etc just your bare bones system and video editing software. Start up from that disk drive when you do your editing and capture work. The third drive will be the 200gb drive that you have. That will be your scratch disk where your movies will reside.

set monitor to thousands of colors not millions and your capture viewer windows should be small. Make sure harddrives have plenty of available space and are defraged, I'm a mac guy for video but if you have virtual memory make sure it is off. have plenty of ram on board

Make sure that you actually do have a capture problem. Video doesn't look smooth when being captured or edited in many programs depending on your processing power and what settings you have going even though it is working just fine.

I'm also a little worried that you may not be use to capturing video with your camera at 24 frames per second. You can't throw the camera around like you can with 60i. It's a different ballgame. Could that be part of your problem?
