I need help fast!!! Regarding p2 import into fcp

I am shooting a wedding tomorrow (saturday if you are reading it on that day.), and I was able to borrow a HVX200 to shoot. I got two 32GB cards and shot a little test footage. I just tried to import into FCP 6, and I am having several problems...

After reading a tutorial from Ken Rockwell and another from Apple, it was telling me to make a folder and then option+click the mounted P2 cards to the folder. I did that, and the log and transfer recognized them and played the clips in the preview window, but when I either drag the clips to the que or actually click "add clip to que", it will show the clip in the que, and show the gray spinning thing but after a few seconds, that will stop and when I click on the clip in the que, the gray spinning thing turns into a red exclamation point. I need to get the P2 workflow down TODAY because I need to return the camera Sunday morning!

Also, when reading both tutorials, it was showing screenshots of going to File>Import>Panasonic P2, but when I go there, Panasonic P2 does not show up, so I am assuming log and transfer will do the same thing (especially since the screenshots look the same once the import window opens).

Thanks in advance!!!

ok, so you created a new folder. where is that folder?

open it and tell me whats in it.
there should be a folder called CONTENTS and a file called lastclip.txt

The folder is the exact copy of the P2 cards, and yes, it does have CONTENTS and lastclip.txt and only those two. The problem is getting them imported, not making the folder, but after failing to import directly off the camera, then I made the folder and then tried importing from those and the same exact thing I described happened.

you didnt answer WHERE is the folder you created?

desktop, documents, external hard drive, etc?
it can matter...

"at the moment" was it somewhere else prior?
what im trying to get to is was some wonky lacie or mybook drive involved...

another thing. make sure the camera is powered down and disconnected before you do the log and transfer

and never EVER connect or disconnect the firewire/usb cable to the camera while the camera is powered on.

if you did it by firewire (which im assuming you did) lets start over. i have this theory that the firewire behavior of hvx200's is wonky.

delete that folder you created and empty the trash - we want no trace of it.

go into the cameras menu and under "other functions" change the PC mode from 1394 to usb.
go back into the menu to make sure it took. then shut down the camera.

create another new folder. connect the camera via usb and power up the camera. repeat the process you did last time to copy the card.

once the transfer is done. power down the camera. disconnect it. THEN do the log and transfer in FCP

Ok I will try that now and let you know what happens. Thank you so much!!!

You need to learn the correct workflow.

well, im not sure id say the"correct" worflow REQUIRES multiple raids... good idea? yes. "correct workflow?" thats subjective.

we ended up solving his problem offline. one of two things was the key.

1. doing software updates to all his pro apps
2. removing the two spaces from the name of the folder he was copying his P2 data to. or doing a select all+drag as opposed to option drag
