I need a thunder sound

I need a thunder roll, a really good one.... Do you guys have one that you can send me or that I can download?

I have a few sites that has good music for movies but it's difficult to find this specifically.

I remember a Brady Bunch episode where they used a large piece of sheet-metal bending it back and forth to make a thunder sound. Maybe give that a try?
 
Fantastic sound JP... if you don't mind I think I'll save that to my hard drive for future use. It even works on systems with no sound cards installed. Pure genius.

Let's play with this for a moment.

Coffee needs a Thunder sound effect. Shall we then suppose that Coffee is a director who is doing the sound mix on his latest movie? Yes.

mdslammer has a Thunder sound effects library. Does that makes mdslammer a sound designer who might be able to work with Coffee? Yep.

Coffee gets in touch with mdslammer, lets him know about his foley needs. mdslammer puts a little something together using the sound fx library that he owns. Coffee drops it into his audio mix.

We now have a movie where Coffee is a director who used mdslammer for some sound design.

Would this really be even slightly illegal? I don't see how it's even a gray area.
 
I wouldn't worry about it. And although I admittedly fall in the middle of that debate (I understand but don't condone it) I don't see it as a problem at all. The analogy used by OWEN is perfect.

Now if mdslammer was sending Coffee and burned copy of FCP and a serial number then that would be illegal (and I wouldn't care anyway; just don't pimp or announce it here).

Yep coffee is working on the edits of a latest film and I PM'ed MD for a little guidence if you will.

Owen, good to know that I'm not the only logical thinker in these terms.

John, can you burn me a copy of FCP with the serial? LOL, just kidding buddy. I already have one, I mean it, I mean...... Well, it was expensive but paid for.

I do still love Marcia, though. Damn, she was hot. I think it was for her play that the ol' sheet-metal thunder was used.
 
First off, Coffee was asking for "a thunder roll". I was offering to help him out with 1 thunder sample. Not the whole library.

Secondly, you can download free samples from various companies as posted.

With some creative editing these can suffice fine. Is it "illegal" to use those samples?

Third: Posts from Owen and John Hudson are correct and accurate. I am a sound designer and composer. I have invested a small fortune over the years and have an extensive collection of music and sound effects libraries. I own these libraries out right and use them for film and video projects. This is perfectly legal and their intended purpose. I have never sold or traded any of my libraries.

My only intent was to help someone out who needed a small favor but in doing, so I'm being accused of "illegal" activity. I don't condone piracy or illegal software and take offense to any insinuations otherwise.


Sorry Coffee but I have to rescind my offer.

Coffe, dude, if you still need thunder sounds I have them. I have "my own" recorded sound effects library which I've recorded over the past 5 years or so. So if you need anything just ask me. I'm the owner of these sounds because well I personally recorded them and you can use them for whatever you like. Only I can sue you! ;) let me know.

Why?

Because I'm a nice muthaphucker!
