Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

The whole concept is garbage! It's like charging a monthly speeding ticket just to cover the times you don't get caught! Does the artist get any money? I highly doubt it. Not everyone uses the CDs to burn illegal material. - How can it be even remotely reasonable for someone to have to pay Shania Twain 29 cents to back up their office documents! (just an exaggerated example)

Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

Let's start an online petition and let our politicians know what we think of that! Or, better yet, let's bootleg them (the media, not the politicians ;D) from the US.

Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

I'm frankly stunned that there's a piracy tax - if I lived in Canada, I'd pirate everything I could, just on princible - DVDs, music CDs, apps, the works.

Well, why not, you're being punished for it before hand, right?!

>:(

Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

Well that's the way in Great White North. It's all about sharing, you know? >:(

Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

Wow, I find this amazing.  :o

Seems to me they're charging the tax to recoup sales tax losses from lost music/movie sales. That's exactly why the Boston Tea Party happened.

But the thread's moving toward becoming a political thread, so be cautious.  Let's leave the left/right liberal/conservative stuff out. 8)

Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

Yes, David I agree- let's keep the left/right politics out of it.

I wonder, is piracy any lower in Canada than anywhere else in the world? (US, UK)

I doubt it...

Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

Because of measures like this, I'd say many people will actually say what's been said: 'To hell with it, if I have to pay I may as well pirate'. So - probably not higher than in most of the world (E.Europe, China, etc), but I wouldn't be surprised if it's higher than in US.

Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

Stupid lefties and righties!

CAN'T WE ALL JUST BE AMBIDEXTROUS!?

(What? I was talking about hand usage, not politics!)

I don't pay tribute to Queen, not since Freddy Mercury passed awayEngland keep your Stars..."Forgotten Rebels"
I haven't felt part of the commonwealth since Chuck dumped Di for Camilla.
Regarding the tax, there was a petition that was going around to try to stop this tax being implemented, obviously it had no effect.
It's a shame to have to pass this additional cost along to the consumer and then to the client who is making his financial contribution to the economy by employing me to create the video for him.

Re: I love my goverment(beeeaaatches)

I have no political notions on this whatsoever. It's the industries that are doing this, not government - period!

That was during the arrogant Chretien days. Now Liberals have a minority government, thay might be more willing to look at the issue. And don't forget, Sheila Copps, the main proponent/sponsor of the levy, is out of the parliament altogether. Bye, Sheila! :-*

We have to keep politics off the board. :-X

Also - I doubt our American and other worldly friends here give a rats ass about Canadian Politics. ;) ;D

Most of the time we couldn't care less about our own politics. The entire world political scene is corrupt, look the UN's food for oil scandal and the over $25Billion that cannot be accounted for right now. It is all run by the banks anyway. He who controls the money, controls the world.
