FS7: "I just haven't seen anything cinematic from the FS7"

If you can't get a cinematic image out of CineEI, it just mean you don't know what you are doing. CineEI is very cinematic even without the LC709A LUT. One thing about the FS7 is the highlights are great for an $8K camera. No other camera priced under the F5 can hold highlights like the FS7.

Here's something in progress so it's password protected. I spent about 5 minutes coming up with the look because it was practically there before I even started. No LC709a in these shots. Just graded the image. I love CineEI.

Coming from the FS700, the main thing I can say about CineEI is that you just add some contrast and saturation and you have a great looking image with very nice colors. With the FS700, I felt like I always had to tweak the blue channel to get good skin, which took about 5 seconds but for the camera purists, that's still 5 seconds.

These frame grabs are right out of the camera with no grade, just the LC709a look profile. They look great IMO for zero effort. As good a baked in look as any sub $15K camera IMO.

Nice variety of looks guys. All pleasing images. I personally hate the term 'cinematic' as its so subjective and a lot of things aren't 'cinematic' but are still great images. Commercials are one example.

Gene Your piece reminded me of Princess Mononoke. I like the mood.

I have to laugh when people complain about what does or doesn't have a "cinematic" look. There is no such thing. What real film gave the artist was options. You want all in focus, bam Citizen Kane. You want DOF to focus the audience's attention, bam a million examples.

The truth is all the modern cameras, including the FS7 give you all the options you need. It's up to the artist to pick out the characteristics that give feeling or meaning to the shot.

I would say that used intelligently and with care the FS7 can be successfully used in any project, but no camera makes the decisions for you.

I am going to say it again. Getting a cinematic image out of CineEI especially if you are using LC709a baked in or added in Cataylist Browse is as easy an any camera under $15K. If you cannot do that, you should probably take up trading stocks as your hobby since you will make (or lose) way more money.

Heck, just grading straight CineEI without any LUT yields a fantastic image. Huge improvement over the FS700 that's for sure.

IMO, CineEI is the only mode that really gives you that cinematic vibe. I've messed with Custom and some of the Hypergammas and just never liked the results. I just wish they would add more White Balance control to it.
