I just did something stupid

I just mounted a c mount lens (with an mft adapter ) on the AF101. When I took of the lens it made a strange noise and didn't come off easily. After it was free from the camera I saw that the contact points on the camera had been broken.
Couldn't get a hold of the Panasonic support today, so they will hopefully call me tomorrow and I will ask what the estimate might be for repair. Unfortunately I had not yet insured the camera.
Well this really made my day.

Sorry to hear this :/

adapter error? sounds as though the contact points got caught on the adapter when going to turn it loose.

What brand adapter is it?

Maybe it is possible that I turned the lens the wrong way or to far.
As far as the adapter is concerned, I'm not sure. I bought it with a Taylor Hobson 24-180 mm f 3.7 lens from this little second-hand camera/film shop in Rotterdam.
FYI even though this lens was made for a 16mm film camera it has no dark corners. http://www.c-mount.passion.pro/article/Taylor+Hobson+Sopelem+Rank++f3.7+24-180mm.html

Well... s**t happens... At least it is not the rear of the glass rubbing on the sensor.... :Drogar-KnockedOut(D

Without knowing what caused it there is a high probability that the adaptor was of a cheap brand maybe...? The good ones are so expensive because usually the manufacturers use better material. One of the reasons I personally stay with Novoflex for my photo lenses and Hot Rod for PL's.

Hope you have only a minor problem, Etienne. Fingers are crossed. This really hurts only thinking about it.....

Ouch ...I hope the repair bill is not too heavy, and thanks for the warning I will be more careful with my own adapter

I have just received the estimate from the repair centre for Panasonic camera's in the Netherlands. The only thing that was broken were a few of the contacts on the camera that communicate with the lens.
The total cost is €3 628,89 = $5 269,87. This I believe is outrageous. They need to replace the whole housing with the CCD chip. This comes close to the costs of a new camera.
Unfortunately, as I have mentioned before, I had not yet insured the camera, as I was only testing it in house to determine which lenses I would be using. I understand that, because of technology now a days, the components in camera's are integrated modules which are replaced in it's entirety, but becomes of this it becomes exorbitantly expensive to repair. I'm not sure as what to do. I cann't really afford to spend this much on top of the purchase of the camera.

Holy s**t, that's more than the camera costs (here) :-O

...you said contact pins, correct? This should not affect the core functionality of the camera. You can still use dumb/C/PL lenses on it. The only thing you can't do is use (smart) m43 lenses, or the Birger if/when it comes out. I say take the money you would've spent on lenses/repairs, buy lenses, and carry on.

You are right but I also planned to use the 14-140 Panasonic with the Manfrotto 521PFI with the digital follow focus. I do have several Nikon, Leica and Voigtlander lenses. So unless they come back with a better price, I will have to do just that. Unfortunately I could hardly sell this camera in the future in its present condition.

I think you could still sell this. I'm sure there are a lot of people looking for a good deal on an af100 who plan to only use manual control lenses.

Can you post pictures of the damage? If it's just the pins I'm sure anyone with some level of soldering and tinkering experience can fix it with some random parts from a broken camera or lens.

So where and how did the lighting truck back over the camera? Gosh thats a shame.

It's still in the repair shop. They are going to call Panasonic on Monday and ask if there is a better possibility than replacing the whole housing for the CCD. The repair shop also thought this was way to expensive for what needed to be repaired. Though the man did say not to hold my breath...
