I just can't hold it in anymore!

I've worked with loads of music celebs and I'm friends with a few, ok with one very famous actor but I'm now sorta star struck in a sense! My short, a boxing film to be shot on the 28th, is in preproduction and I'm hashing out some details when BAM it hits me! I make a phone call and now have a lunch meeting with Gerry Cooney! I'm going to try to get him to agree to taking on a small role in my film as a trainer. I'm totally stoaked! Time to work on my pitch and practice my game face... lol I'm really excited about this because I've been a boxing fan since birth and even though I've met him through friends twice, this is different. It's my film, my baby that he might be in.....

Ok, I'll shut up now....

I co-wrote it with two friends but I'm giving them full credits as I was more of an idea man for this specific film.

I'm producing it and directing it but the writers are arguing a case for me to play the lead. I used to act and I used to box and they say I have "the look" for the part but damn man, I start feeling so overwhelmed and stressed out when I think of playing both sides of the camera on the same project. I'm still casting for the role so if we don't find "the guy" then I just might do it.

Thanks guys! I'll keep everyone posted!

Got your email Chris, I'm in but need to check one more thing before I give my final.

I know, the great white hope! lol, pretty cool. Hey maybe I can get him on a behind the scenes camera wearing a DVXUser t-shirt or something..... That waould be awesome! Someone send me a T.

Careful - your enthusiasm and success are contagious.

Think about how many people would not have put their ego on the line to either (a) even make their own film or (b) make that call to Cooney.

The motto of the British SAS is "Who Dares, Wins".

Sounds like it's your motto, too. Best of luck.

Thanks guys! The deal isn't 100% sealed just yet so I have my fingers crossed!

Also, my one of my life motto's is: Ready, shoot, aim. Think about it, how many people wait until they're "ready" before they take the leap and actually "shoot". I learn by doing and if I'm off a bit to the left then I know next time that I need to make that adjustment.

Here's a good one posted by a fellow member: The ONLY difference between those who succeed and those who fail is that the successful person took a first step, while the failure is STILL waiting for everything to be perfect before doing anything.

Soooo true!

What's wrong with being off to the left?!

Good luck, man. Just remember that even celebrities are human. Try your best not to get the fangirl gigglies. People can sense when you're feeling "OMG, like it's Gerry Cooney!" If you subtract his fame, and treat them like every other turd on the planet (so don't say - "It's such an honor, sir"), I think he'll be more responsive. As long as he it isn't a Queen!

Best to you. Have fun.

thanks Sean... Not sure if I mentioned this in my original post but I met him a few times already through friends. I'm stoked mostly because he's open to being involved in my short....

By the way, my meeting with him got bumped up to 2pm TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trust me, it's a hand full & a half. Did just that for the short film waltind and I are doing for the Sci-Fest, and wish I'd been behind the camera more instead of in front of it. We did a two cam shoot, and Ryan did a great job as DP & A Cam, but the B Cam guy wasn't as vested as we both are, and there are things that we missed because both our hands were full ... his with the overall technical of the shoot, mine with trying to balance with being the lead. Ug, not sure I'll do that again.

Oh yeah, like Tim just asked ... how'd it go with the meeting?

I hear ya, that's why I decided not to do it. I want to be a director, not an actor so it's best that I focus on one area for now.

As for the meeting, it went great! He was open to hearing everything and I sent him a copy of the material. He wanted to read it last night and talk again this morning so I'll be calling him around 10ish.... Yep, I'm nervous. Mostly because it would solidify alot of things within this story. The story is about a boxer who hits a bottom and musters up the strength and courage to get back on his feet just like what Gerry did in his personal life.

Um...is he a member of one of the guilds? SAG or AFTRA? Could lead to pain-in-the-butt paperwork. Not that that should put a halt to anything. :)
