I have some more HVX Footage + post workflow in FCP

Prodigi,

I'll take my portable green screen with me today to do some DVCPro100 vs 50 tests and I'll try to post the MXF's ASAP. I'm planning to look at the detail / noise issue and will post clips. For the shoot next week, we will be using the Chromatte Retroreflective Blue Screen technology so we can see how it works with the HVX.

The other big thing I'm looking to figure out today is whether my new portable raid drive will be able to download directly from the camera for redundant backup without a laptop. If it works, I'm going to work on a solution for battery powering the raid. This is the unit:

I'll post a review in the hardware section once I know something new.

Firestox,

Thanks! I'd also love to see the difference between 1080 24p and 720 24p with the green screen. BTW, where did you get your raid drive? And how much? Good luck on your tests.

Thanks,

I bought the enclosure at the Costa Mesa, CA Fryes for 169.00, you can find them cheaper online. I'm using it striped as a media drive on my Final Cut system now and it works very well with 2 Maxtor 7200rpm/16mb cache DiamondMax 250gb drives.

Thanks to Luis's answer to my other thread, I'll take some shots at 1080p as well for reference.

Yo Filmstox! Where you live man? I'm in Costa Mesa. Fry's - good prices bad/incompotent service. I could host...

I live in Buena Park but my studio is in Santa Ana, about 2 minutes from Fry's. Actually have some good and bad news about the drive. Yes the HVX can write to it without a laptop (transfer from card, not stream) but only when it is configured as a striped drive. If you are tryingto use it for parity (my plan) the HVX sees it as 2 drives and freaks out. I still need to see if it will auto build by popping out one drive for the initial transfer then pop the second one in. I doubt it will. The bad news (sorta) is that last night I tripped over a cable and found out how the raid handles a 4 foot fall to concrete! Actually, it did surprisingly well. Thank God the power was already off and the drives parked. No data lost and the drives are sounding fine. The case is only a little worse for the wear. The shock popped one of the drive trays loose, so 15.00 should fix it.

A cautionery tale for certain.

Thanks for the hosting offer. Send me a PM and we'll work it out.

Filmstox, that sucks, I hope all is well with the HDD's... That DS3R is a beautiful enclosure, I was at Fry's today and I almost got one, but I had to run. Still haven't found a PCMCIA USB2.0 card reader there.
