I have not heard much from Apertus lately?

Back in 2016, Apertus announced they would make an open source fully customizable camera known as the Axiom Beta and Gamma. Their latest news was that they got a factory set up for the Beta, though I have not heard from them in a while. I'm interested in their camera as I'm sure it'll be good, considering the Magiclantern team is working with them on it. Has anyone tried their camera?

According to their website, the Beta is shipping. $4300, and that's for the "developer" version, so you'll have to build your own chassis/enclosure.

I've not heard of it before just now. So... no point of reference here.

I wouldn't hold my breath. This camera was in crowdfunding about ten years ago and there's been very little news since. I'm pretty sure I saw a developer version on eBay a couple years ago but at this point, there are better cameras that are available for less.

If you really want to tinker and heavily customize a camera, I'd suggest looking at the Magic Lantern builds for the EOS-M/650D/700D. These cameras received a new hack within the last year or so that is remarkably stable and responsive. I'm getting continuous 2560x1440 in 12-bit raw on my EOS-M and in my view, there is currently no better digital 16mm (NOT s16mm) camera on the market. And the Facebook group is a lot of fun, with plenty of tinkering and information-sharing. It kind of reminds me of DVXuser back in 2010 or so.

Or you could always build your own CinePi 2K.
