I have HPX170, need other one AF-100 or HPX170?

Hello everybody, This time I need a second camcorder to work with, and I have two options, buy another HPX 170, but for about $4000 more I can buy the new AF-100 with lens. But the question is, can I work with this two diffrent camcorders in final cut, or it would be best to work with 2 camcorders HPX 170.

I feel that if I choose an HPX 170 I am loosing about $5,000 in something that even the Hpx 170 is almost new, The AF-100 make it seem obsolete. what do you think all experts here?

Pedro.

The AF100 isn't out yet, and hasn't even been shown yet, so it's premature to answer any questions like that. We will know more in a week.

The AF100 may very well make the HPX170 obsolete for some people, but for other uses it definitely won't; those who need an ENG lens and power zoom and the long reach and deep DOF of a 1/3" imager (I'm thinking sports/events shooters) are still going to gravitate towards an HPX170 type of camera (not to mention its much lower price). News and documentarians are probably going to prefer the control and freedom of an ENG-style lens too.

But depending on how good the image looks, I think the AF100 will be tremendously more popular for filmmakers, commercials shooters, music video shooters, and corporate/industrial films. It promises basically all the functionality of the HPX170 (minus the power zoom and the ability to hold focus during a zoom) but adds the lush cinematic shallow DOF. If those are your priorities, then the AF100 may make a lot of sense for you.

But there's a lot to be said for having two matched cameras too, depending on what kind of things you shoot.

Thank you Barry, yes I understand about the differences between this two great camcorders, obviously all the people wish the new AF-100, but like you said its much more expensive the AF-100, so I would make money first with my HPX 170, and then, I will thinking about the AF-100 that offers incredible features unbelievably. But people like me that has an Hpx 170 don't disappoint you can do a lot of things, all depends of how you are creative, I mean its not all about the camcorders, its about who are driving the machine.

Nice to talk with you Barry
