Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

Sorry to get technical right off the bast but, how did you set up you monitor for the shoot. You might well be the perfect customer for DV Rack!

Best,

Jan

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

I've seen some really desaturated footage, properly exposed but shot with AWB (auto white balance). Try manual balancing. I don't know if this is the case.

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

whell... i do alot of bike filming.. and i have set the white balance manually... in fact..i never used the awb, hah i didnt really know it existed... i try to keep it manual all the time.. im usually on the run with the camera, so i dont have a monitor to check it with... and my lcd screen is broken, it over rotated...but can one of you please tell me any suggestions as to how to get it more colorfull, with less noise as-well. i use a warm polarizing filter sometimes, and that makes some colors better, but i cant seem to figure out why it doesnt come out correct in the first place, i purchased and expodisc, and i must say, it definately works, i was a bit sceptical, and i also use a whitebalance card.. please help me get the best looking footage i can, also, im shooting in 60i, not 24p, i have a dvc80

Something of a dissapointing reply from a DVX100 Product Manager.

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

Any chance you can post some grabs so we can take a look? This is like trying to have a doctors appointment over the phone. We really need you to come in so we can have you "turn your head and cough." ;)

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

to me, they just seem washed out a bit, grainy, and the colors arent as good as they look in person.. i always make sure im not running the gain at 3db or so by accident, and i auto iris, and then switch to manual if it looks too bright, i use my viewfinder only as-well, please give any suggestions possible

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

Shooting on an overcast day does not help the colour very much. I find you get richer colours in DV when it is slightly underexposed. Then you can bring up the luminance in post very easily

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

For a quick fix, try setting a.iris to -3, color matrix to "cine", color temp to +2, master ped to -8, gamma to "norm" or "b.press", chroma level to +3, and then play around from there.

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

Once again the Guru comes to the rescue. Barry do you wait in ths shadows. You are like the DV super hero.

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

I always shoot UNDER 3.

Also, when the camera prompts you to turn on the ND (1/8 or 64th); Do it!   THen, adjust IRIS from there.

And tell that moron to put a helmet on; damn.

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

A while back i shot a wedding with my DVX100a and a DVC80 (borrowed from a friend), and for the life of me, even with the settings matching i could not make the 80 look as good as the 100a. It just did not seem to have the color defenition and saturation that the 100a had. I even tried to overcompensate the 80 and still the results were dissapointing. I matched the 100a settings to the available 80 settings (ie gamma, master ped, detail, etc.) I don't understand why if the cameras use the same processing, the 80 just couldn't compete with the 100a.

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

Yeah, there are no cinegamma, so I set the DVX to to normal gamma as well. Hold on a minute, I'll post a couple of grabs for you to show what I am talking about. As far as the exact settings, I can't quite remember. It was a few months ago.

These are two different weddings, and the same exact thing happened at each. For some reason i just couldn't get the 80 to look good.

Re: i have an issue i cant figure out

By the way the first of each group are color corrected, the other are not. Even with color correction tools I found it very hard to match the cameras.
