I Had to Give the Bird's and Bee's discussion! AHHHHHHHHH!

my father did not know much about nature so my talk was called the italian sausage and the donut. that probably explains why i have a bit of a weight problem.

This is the funniest thing I've read all night ... and I've been here a while!

Strange, I am disgusted and hungry at the same time. Dammit, more nightmares..........

How does a kid get to 16 without having that talk?!?!?! Seriously? I don't even think I was 10 when my Dad sat me down and had the talk. Incredibly awkward, but I knew what I needed to know after that, well ahead of time.

I was one of those guys who didn't get the talk 'till he was 14-16... and it went like this:

"Son, let's be honest. You already know what it is, and you know what it's about. And if you want to go do it, I can't stop you. So feel free to go do what you want, how you want, with whomever you want. But if you ever come home and tell me I'm about to become a grandfather, your @$$ and all of your belongings will be on the front porch in the next 15 minutes. If you're "man" enough to be doing it, you're man enough to take responsibility for it, and I'm too old to be raising your kids (mind you, he was late 30's/early 40's at the time)."

Needless to say, I stayed out of trouble :engel017:

(This was also a man who said if I ever came home with an earring, he was taking me to the mall to buy a matching dress... the old man was a bit strict. :) )

As a so-called Digital Native I had thoroughly researched the information contained in "the talk" before officially receiving it.

I can only imagine what it must be like to be a teenager these days having an endless spigot of pornography streaming straight into your bedroom. When I was a kid you had to go to the ends of the earth just to get half a glimpse of a nudie magazine. It's a pretty safe bet any kid older than 12 today already has a pretty explicit idea of what the birds and the bees entails, which I guess makes things easier for the parent in having to explain it. Still, "the talk" is more about responsibility, and with kids easy access to porn (which almost never portrays safe sex), who knows what kind of dumb ideas they are getting. And parents, if you think that just because you know how to configure a router means your kids aren't watching this stuff, don't fool yourself.

^ Yeah I'd agree that's a foregone conclusion. * If I'm not mistaken, in Canada, they are teaching Sex Ed in grade 3 now. Because of the availabilty of internet content of the adult nature. So, even so, any kid of the age of 16 , okay, well, it's not even possible nowadays that they wouldn't know about sex. That's plain and simple. Barring any ignorance of some sort.

Google anything in the form of images and , well, you get my drift. Titties will come up at some point most of the time.

I don't know. Good luck Doc and all parents.

Thanks, I hope it stuck. I didn't pull any punches and talked to him like he was just another guy. No varying my language because he was 16. I talked to him like he was a Marine in my unit, and I was brutal about this subject to them. I hope I punched through the teenage BS "I will live forever" fog.

Digital native?
kids born with the internet?

Yep. At 19 I'm one of the oldest.

I'd recommend all parents to still have "the talk" with their kids. It's not so much about explaining how babies are made. Kids need to know about safe sex and be given some wisdom about relationship skills, how to treat women, etc. The internet is terrible at teaching these things.

Jeez ur 19...... Man no joke.

Hah.... my parents had to have the talk with me when I was very little. I was chasing girls around since I was 3 and they figured I should know the birds and bees early on.

Holy Crap, I am old enough to be your father......

Okay new rule. No one post here if they are under 23, you ain't helping me feel any younger. You are making me feel f'ing old. Or don't give your age, for God's sake.
