I just tested a few exports for DVD via compressor but the footage just looks too freaking videoish. My web export look exactly how I'd like them to look but not my DVD exports. Anyone have any good exporting for DVD steps that you care to share?

Thanks

I use Sorenson Squeeze for my MPEG2 exports, and I've found they look a bit better then Apple Compressor. Is your source footage interlaced or progressive? Are you making your web/DVD exports de-interlaced? Progressive playback of web videos makes them look non-videoish.

Where are you watching these tests? Keep in mind that web videos watched on a computer monitor WILL look fairly different from a DVD being watched on a TV for a variety of reasons.

Hey guys, I'm starting with 720pN footage so it's progressive, I'm watching on a Sony Bravia. David, what do you mean what codec am I stating with? I shot it in DVCPOR-HD, is that what you were asking? The total length is just under 4 minutes.

here ya go.

1. export current settings and make movie self contained.
2. bring that movie into compressor.
3. look in the settings window for a folder called "dvd best quality 90 minutes"
4. drag the folder onto your movie.
5. click "submit" and wait for it to compress

this creates two files, one video and one audio. the video file ends with .m2v and the audio is .ac3

drag both of these files into your assets window in dvdsp. in your dvd menu, create a button or use an existing button in one of the templates. next, drag both of the files you imported onto the button at the same time but don't release the mouse button. a popup window will appear. drag the files onto "create track" and release the button.

to make sure you did it right, go into simulation mode and click the button. your video should play. this method makes great dvds.

of course you can drop pretty much any quicktime format into dvdsp and it will do all the conversion and recompressing for you but it sucks and you will always get bad results. using a high quality compressing program like compressor to convert to mpeg-2 in advance is the way to go.
