This should solve our low cost USB 2.0 PCMCIA reader needs.
You can even get a four slot model!

Best of all It's only $89.00!

I don't know if it will mount in FCP but the panasonic version is over $1K.
An 8gig card should off load in 3-4 min.

There is also a SATA option that will increase the through put to 150 MBs!
That's over twice the rate of USB 2.0 or firewire. Download 8gb in 55sec!
Cool huh?

Panasonic AJ-PCD10 with five card slots is $2500.00

This looks really good!

I wonder when some mfg. will figure out that one card extending out of a single slot could attach to a huge thick card...or drive with many times the data storage of these thin wafers. Then the small slot size won't determine capacity as much as it currently does.

From the link, these are DOS, Windows, Linux only, so FCP is not supported.

Jan, since Panasonic has partnered with Apple with DVC-PRO HD over firewire in Final Cut Pro, when will we see PCMCIA readers for the P2 cards that are Mac friendly? This is a very important part of the system and those of us that use Macs and FCP need these card readers.

It seems like a no brainer to include a two slot external card reader in the box with the camera.
..One that works with Windows and Mac. Why not? At least consider it for the 10K package, Jan.

Of course the camera functions as a card reader as well, so maybe all this talk of card readers is moot.

Mr.Blonde:
Good points. But, what other $3k computer system can you use to edit DVCPROHD from tape?
It's got of the box DVCPROHD-over-firewire (a feature not supported in Windows)

Overpriced and underdeveloped, perhaps?

Exactly. Plus, getting one with an SATA interface that promises "150 MB/sec" isn't going to help; the cards themselves are limited to 640 Mbps (80 MB/sec) of theoretical bandwidth. Relax, folks ... the equipment will be there when the camera is, too. :)

C'mon now mac guys, you know the pc will support DVCPROHD come 4th quarter if not earlier, why wouldn't it. And yes, I can build a pc that burns the mac duals for much cheaper as well. Mac's are overpriced and are far too limited in upgrade value as well as application support. Pc's are a do it all system, I support the pc for its freedom of choice to do anything from play games, to edit, to upgrading it without giving up a kidney up in the process. "Mac snobs" are those same people who I associate with "film snobs."

And Thorton, you're talking a pre built editing pc...ofcourse it's going to cost you an arm and a leg my friend. That's why you gotta build your own rig.
