I fixed a dead pixel. Is this normal?

I have a LCD production monitor on my desk that I use for various things and this afternoon all of a sudden one of the pixels turned green. It was very annoying and turning off and on didn't help. I eventually got kinda mad and flicked the screen with my finger and it went back to working order. Is this a common fix?

My microwave once broke and wasn't working for about 3 weeks. I punched the back inside of it on a whim and it worked for 5 more years.

Hope this helps.

(I realize it certainly does not)

That's a stuck pixel, not a dead pixel. A dead pixel would be black and unrepairable. A stuck pixel, on the other hand, is one that gets stuck in a particular state. This, and other, methods are described around the internet for un-sticking the pixel.

You need to soak it in distilled water and leave it overnight in a dark closet. It's probably a problem with the flux cap.. oh wait, pixels? ...never mind....

My friend once was having trouble with an older school laptop after quite some time of trying to get it to turn on he just put it on the ground and kicked it. I think it still works and that was like 4 years ago.

haha. yea thats how I fixed my dvx when is had "the clunk".

what I would give for one of those threads right now.

The clunk can only be fixed by a 4 story drop onto a concrete sidewalk. It's unfortunate and inconvenient, but it works. No more clunk any more. No more camera, period, actually.

Flicking things when your mad always helps.

My laptop had a stuck pixel for a long time. It was very annoying. Had no idea how to fix it until I stumbled across a single post on a forum that said "just press firmly on the back of your lcd panel". Sure enough it fixed it.

Now I do the same thing to anything that annoys me. Animals, people, whatever. Just press firmly on their backs until I hear a pop.

my parents had a regular Bang & Olufsen TV a couple of years ago that started doing weird things: It would all of a sudden change channel, tune out the channels or just ad snow or lines to the picture. The weird thing was that simply hitting the TV with something would reset it for a couple of hours. In the beginning we would hit it. then we started throwing things like sandals and pillows at it and finally we'd pick it up and shake it.

after about a year it got so bad we needed to get it fixed. The repair shop took it apart, found nothing wrong and put it back together again. For the next three weeks they had the TV on non-stop and tried just about everything without any luck. the final report said "the only way to explain the snow is that the TV seems to be possessed by the King of Winter ". We chucked it and bought a new one.

the moral of the story? when it comes to electrical appliances of any sort expect the unexpected.

I turned my old computer on a mont ago and said something like system files are unreadable and thought $h!t. Gave it one hell of a kick. Went completely dead. turned it back on and loaded up XP fine and ran faster then it ever has before.

A good kick works wonder :P

Can you imagine calling up tech support at one of the multi-million dollar companies and having the engineering grad on the other end say...

"Umm...could you try kicking it? Is it working now?"
