I film skimboarding and i need help!

HMC150skim

New member
Hey i just got an HMC150 and my main goal is to shoot a full length skimboard dvd.

Im trying to get a particular look when i shoot but skimboarding seems to be hard to keep in the right focus and to get the lighting/video right.

Besides the struggle i have been having with the camera i use vegas 9.0 and dont really know what the best setting and rendering for a 40 minute film i eventally want to burn to dvd.

im in soo over my head.

this is a trailor of skimboarding with the kinda video quality im looking for, i hope the hmc150 can produce what im after.

any help with scene files or vegas setup/export would be awsome.

I would say you need to use magic bullet looks. Then use the blockbuster preset and I believe it will give you most of that look. Now if you are going to do slow mow. Shoot in 60p. There is a guy on here who has a tutorial Brad C. on the best way to get 60p slow mow action in vegas. I can find if you cant. Just let me know.

awsome magic bullet looks great.....its compatible with vegas correct?
thanks for the tip

ok so for color magic bullet is key but as far as focusing should i be doing maunal or auto? often times the subject is running away to to the camera and i often have to zoom to keep them in good frame and many times the shot gets out of focus in the process.

MBL will currently only work with 32bit version of vegas. And yes..you will have to manual focus and iris to get some of those shots..but you can do alot in post as well.

I don't film this sort of stuff (much too cold for that here). But looking at the example you gave it looked like the focus wasn't all that sharp in some of the shots (maybe that's just the compression), also the depth of field was quite large in many shots.

If you use a small aperture (you're out in the sun, so low light shouldn't be an issue) you will have quite a large DoF so focussing is pretty easy, especially when the end result is going to SD. Hope that helps.

thanks for the help guys, i hope i have the 32 bit version of vegas and i will deff try to use a small aperture to keep the DoF larger.

They are working on a 64bit version. I have been selected to Beta test for them. Cant wait till they are ready.
