I dropped Sony F3

Hello everyone!

I have been reading this forum for awhile and see that people in here are professional and kind so it's good starting my first post here.

I was at the airport with 2 luggages and 2 camera bags on the cart by myself.
I put the Kata bag ( http://www.kata-bags.com/capsule-183-hdv-case-b ) that had F3 inside on the top of the big luggage when I was waiting for the lift.
Suddenly, the bag dropped from the luggage about 4-5 ft hight.
So far the camera work fine except viewfinder which is bent. However, I have know idea how to check it properly. I talked to the Sony guy in Vietnam but he has no experience with the camera.

I have to stay in Vietnam for at least 3 months.I worry because Kata bag is quit thin and F3 is plastic and build quality is not as good as Ex1r. There might be some things ripped apart inside and camera decides to stop working in the middle of the day (Thinking finding a backup cam).

Is the F3 tough enough in this situation?

PS. the monitor volume buttons on the side of the camera are very loose and not very firm compare to other buttons. Maybe it is normal because of build quality and I never noticed, anyone can confirm this?

Thank you
T

Bummer...no way to tell, but I'd just shoot and see. The first thing I'd think would be prudent is to shoot a little and look at the footage.
I'd hedge my bet on it being ok. Best of luck.

Hi , I have an F3 here in Saigon , the local Sony Broadcast is located at the SONY factory which is on the outskirt of Ho Chi Minh City, if you need a contact , I might have a phone number for you ?
Good luck

Thank you everyone.
Pier, I will stick with it for a while since it works properly (at least I think) Thank you though.

Just curious about the toughness of the camera when thinking about my iPhone and laptop were dropped, they had some dents but work properly. I am not sure Sony has the drop test for F3.

When you travel, it's very simple, the camera bag never leaves your hand, or shoulder. NO ONE touches my camera bag and I never pile it on top of any cart. TSA is lucky I let them open it for inspection, but I find them very respectful of professional gear. I can't say the same for any other baggage handlers. Afterall, they will assume it's just clothes in the bags they sling around. The F-3 is certainly as sturdy as any other Sony compact camera, with the exception of that completely useless viewfinder. I use a Kata CB 300 which fits in all overheads except for the prop jets here in the US. The
bag is lightweight and will hold enough essentials besides the F-3 body to get you thru the first day's shoot.
