I don't get airlines and their rates.

for a short drive like that, I wouldn't even consider flying.

It's a 3 hour drive, just drive it?

It's a three-hour drive, and it is a pleasant one. I did the same work for the same client at the same time this past February. It was in Lexington, so of course I drove the just-over-two hours. But the weather turned really nasty and the Interstates were dangerous... not to mention downtown Lexington. I was looking for a way not to have to deal with that this time. Plus, if the budget fits, that's skymiles for me.

Cab from the airport wouldn't be needed. There's a free shuttle to the hotel/convention center.

I'm going to drive, and had pretty much decided that after figuring out that flight would be expensive in a way that made no sense... hence my original post. And like I said before, I'll end up making a little on mileage anyway.

By the way, David, Wilmington is a great town. I know a fantastic little sushi joint downtown, just a couple storefronts from an Italian bakery and gift shop. Had a meeting at Wrightsville Beach this past spring, and afterwards went to lunch with one of my colleagues there. It was muy delicioso.

I just got back from Toronto on Tuesday, was there for a friends wedding. 490.00 return, which is pretty a good price through WestJet, but like a week before I left, I get an offer for like 430.00. Nothing crazy but still kinda pisses you off, that they can just change the prices like that. I'd love to go around a the cabin of an airplane and ask all the passengers what they paid for their tickets, the range in price would be crazy.

You must mean Nikki's. :) There are a few locations around town, with a new one opening up soon.

If you come back to Wrightsville Beach, go to the Oceanic on the pier for lunch. Just had lunch there today -- fantastic, huge scallops.

We did have lunch during the meeting at the spot just on the inland side of the bridge. Can't remember the name... Just over the bridge, turn left. Ate in the upstairs patio that was enclosed with clear plastic. Lots of fried seafood.

Yea, I've been playing the Orbitz stock market for the past 2 weeks getting my tickets from San Diego to Indianapolis for Christmas. If you have flexible dates you can search 3 days before and after each date and it will give you a grid of 49 different combinations and find the lowest prices. I got my flight for $320 but if I changed one or two days around it would be $500+. (and then of course after I bought mine the "stock market" went down and i could have gotten it for $290)

Probably Airlie Seafood, Bridge Tender, or Dockside.

What blows my mind (well, not really), Airlines are going broke, yet they are charging you out the a** for everything from tickets to loading your luggage to charging for free peanuts and pillows... but the Bigwigs are still retiring with multi-million dollar packages. It is just another case of corporations raping the Middle Class, and crying for a helping hand.

Another thought - hire a driver.

You have a van. you'll be totally amazed at how much work, sleep, creative thought, or just plain enjoyment of the scenery you can accomplish if you don't have to pay attention to the minucia of driving.

Be sure you hire someone who's driving you trust completely or you lose the ambience. Be sure they understand no talking and bring their own music (mps w/headsets).

Sit in the back. Sprawl. Let the mind wander. Mentally storyboard your killer feature or, if you really must, the day's shoot. (that'd be a total waste, as it will all change the minute you get there). Bring that book or script you've been wanting to read.

Stop along the way, get off the interstate and have breakfast with the locals at some place they still serve real food. (Costs you double 'cause you pay the drivers too - worth every penny.)

You'll be there quicker, cheaper, friendlier, and with all your stuff.
